Harold Ballew

The Rev. Harold Ballew, 71, McDonough, died Sept. 6, 2002. He was born Jan. 19, 1931 in Habersham County. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Frank Strickland, the Rev. Ralph Baker, the Rev. Hubert Smith, and the Rev. Eddie Rainwater officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Ballew, McDonough; sons, Daniel and Melba Ballew, Tyrone, Danny and Gwen Ballew, McDonough, David Ballew, Newnan, and Donnie and Sheryl Ballew, Stockbridge; brothers, Bill Ballew, College Park, Larry Ballew, Spartanburg, S. C., and Kenneth Ballew, Locust Grove; sisters, Leatrice Turner, Hamilton, Doris Day, and Becky Shaw, both of Cumming; and grandchildren, Nicholas Ballew, Danielle Phillips, Stacey Turner, and Shannon Ballew. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.

Sylvia Ellis

Sylvia Ellis, 88, Jonesboro, Fayette County, died Sept. 8, 2002. She was born May 13, 1914 in Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Ellis. Memorial services were at the National Heights Baptist Church, Fayetteville. Survivors include a son, Robert Ellis, Fayetteville; sisters, Goldie Gillis, Mass., Ruby Stockwell, Phoenix, and Gladys Ploude, Ocala, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Chloe Ellis, Fayetteville. Carl J. Walter D. Patton

Walter D. “Dub” Patton, 72, Fayetteville, died Sept. 9, 2002. He was born Dec. 25, 1929 in Fulton County. Services were at the Fayetteville First Baptist Church, Overton Chapel, with the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Interment was at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. Survivors include his wife, Lana Patton, Fayetteville; daughters, Cheryl and David Hembree, Fayetteville, and Debbie Jarmond; and grandchildren, David Patton, Branden Hembree, Jacob Hembree, Michael Jarmond, and Codi Jarmond. Brian Kelly Whitlock

“Brian” Kelly Whitlock, 35, Fayetteville, died Sept. 10, 2002. He was born April 28, 1967 in Fulton County. Services were at the Corinth Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Chuck Kitchens, the Rev. Kent Smith, and the Rev. Dan Houston officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife, Christina Louise Plew Whitlock, Fayetteville; a son, Aaron Thomas Whitlock, Fayetteville; parents, Buell and Charlotte Whitlock, Fayetteville; a brother, Jeffery Whitlock, Fayetteville; a sister, Tracee Gwyne Whitlock, Fayetteville; and a grandmother, Margaret Tarpley, Jonesboro. Raymond Henry Coleman

Raymond Henry Coleman, 80, Fayetteville, died Sept. 12, 2002. He was born Dec. 26, 1921 in Cobbtown, Tattnall County, Ga. Services were at the Fayetteville First Baptist Church, Overton Chapel, with the Rev. Glenn Stringham and the Rev. Frank Ellis officiating. Interment was at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, S. C. Survivors include his wife, Verdie B. Coleman, Fayetteville; sons, James P. and Jennie Brown, Williston, S. C., and Ronald and Debbie Brown, Columbus, Md.; daughters, Nancy and Mike Higgins, Travelers Rest, and Brenda and Bill Crowley, Fayetteville; a brother, Dean V. and Jane Coleman, Pensacola, Fla.; and sisters, Laura E. and Woody Fegely, Alburtis, Pa., and Carolyn C. and Bill Davis, Mt. Virginia Lee Garner Pope

Virginia Lee Garner Pope, 65, Fayetteville, died Sept. 14, 2002. She was born June 28, 1937 in Winston County, Ala. She had lived in Fayette County for over 40 years. Services were at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Grovenstein officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Dean Pope, Fayetteville; a son Tim and Bonnie Pope, Brooks; daughters, Robbin and Jeff Betsill, Williamson, Sharon and Paul Culbreath, Fayetteville, and Patti McAfee, Brooks; grandchildren, Tammy Curtis, Jason Betsill, Paul Culbreath Jr., Cora Culbreath, Emily Culbreath, Brandon McAfee, Kyle McAfee, James Pope, and Jessie Pope; great-grandchildren, Gracie Betsill, Cody Curtis, and Katie Curtis; a brother, David and Adele Garner, Secacus, N.
