Ira Knox

Ira Wylie Knox Jr., 59, Sharpsburg, died May 15, 2002. He was born July 2, 1942 in Chester County, S. C., the son of the late Ira W. and Margaret Proctor Knox.
He was retired from Delta Airlines, where he worked for 27 years as an inspector in the Wheel and Brake Shop. He was an avid Nascar fan, and loved camping. He was a member of the College park F&AM, #454, and was a Noble of Yaarab Shrine Temple.
He later volunteered at the South Fulton Shrine Club and was elected president in 1989. He was a member of the Turin Masonic Lodge, #337 and served at Worthy Patron of the Turin Order of the Eastern Star. He was an active member of the Turin United Methodist Church and the chancel choir.
Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Griff Jones and the Rev. Scott Brown officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Knox, Sharpsburg; a son, Carl and Donna Knox, Newnan; a daughter, Terri and Ed Promis, Sharpsburg; a sister, Carolyn and Jerry Locke, Chester, S. C.; grandchildren, Johnathan Knox, and Jessica Knox, Palmetto, and Andrew Promis, Sharpsburg; step-grandchildren, Michael and Erik Buckner, Newnan; mother-in-law, Pauline Holt, Sharpsburg; and daughter-in-law, JoEddi Knox, Palmetto.
Memorial donations may be made to Greenville Shriner’s Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, S. C. 29605-4277.

J.W. Young

J. W. “Pete” Young, 61, Newnan, died May 17, 2002. He was born Jan. 2, 1941 in Anniston, Ala. He had serviced in the United States Marines and had been a serviceman for Taylor Gas.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. David Ramey officiating. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Church cemetery, Heflin, Ala.
Survivors include sons, Terry Hayles, Columbus, Ga., Tim Hayles, Berwick, La., and Douglas Young, Palmetto; a brother, Fred Young, Anniston, sisters, Eunice Elkins, Heflin, Ala., Myrie Gidley, Oxford, Ala., Gladys and Bill Jennings, Saks, Ala., Inus Nott, Oxford, Ala.; and five grandchildren.

Richard Bloodworth

Richard Bloodworth, 54, Newnan, died May 17, 2002. He was born Feb. 18, 1948 in Orlando, Orange County, Fla. and was a member of the Peachtree City United Methodist Church.
Memorial services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Chuck Hodges officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Bloodworth, Newnan; twin sons, Alex Bloodworth and Ramsey Bloodworth, Newnan, and a son, Richard Bloodworth, Hartford, Conn.; and a daughter, Stephanie Bloodworth, Norfolk, Va.
Memorial donations may be made to the Southwest Christian Hospice, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, GA 30291.

James Ayers

James Thomas Ayers, 82, Newnan, died May 19, 2002. He was born Sept. 30, 1919 in Coweta County, the son of Walter and Tiny Music Ayers. He was retired from the United States Postal Service.
Services were at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hillcrest Chapel with Pastor Russell Johnson and the Rev. Willard Dean, officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Ayers; a son, Tommy and Brenda Ayers; a daughter, Betty and Ellis Frasier; a brother, Barry Ayers; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Higgins Funeral Home at Hillcrest Chapel was in charge.

Thelma Garner

Thelma Jean Garner, 66, Newnan, died May 20, 2002. She was born Jan. 7, 1936 in Coweta County, the daughter of Raymond and Ethel McEachern Handley. She was employed by William L. Bonnell Co.
Services were at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hillcrest Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Boyd officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Garner; a son, Tommy and Vickie Garner; a daughter, Tammy Asher; a brother, Gerald Handley; stepchildren, Kenneth Garner and Mary Robinson; and two grandchildren.
Higgins Funeral Home at Hillcrest Chapel was in charge.

Edward Roberts

Edward “Eddie” Roberts, 34, Sharpsburg, died May 20, 2002. He was born Nov. 20, 1967 in Italy.
Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Farren Roper officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Vanda Roberts, Sharpsburg; daughters, Ashley Roberts and Samantha Roberts, Sharpsburg; mother, Anna Rassamussum, Rome, N. Y.; brothers, Dennis Roberts, and Jimmy Roberts, both of Rome, N. Y.; and father and mother-in-law, Bobby and Pamela Craig, Sharpsburg.
