A Peachtree City restaurant is helping the city fire department raise money for a special fire safety education program.

Fuddruckers is donating 20 percent of all its sales each Wednesday in October to purchase fire safety education materials for the 3,000 preschool and elementary age children in the city. The restaurant is also offering door prizes to its patrons each Wednesday to encourage participants.

Currently, the city fire department focuses on educating the city’s third graders, but with the expanded program they are targeting all 3,000 children in the age group.

The fire department will distribute the materials to fire stations, elementary schools, day care centers and the city library.

This particular fire safety program involves Buzzly Fire Safety videos, teacher lesson plans, child’s activity sheets and parent informational handouts. The program was developed by Janylle Sanchez-Koren, a local mom and businesswoman, who watched her younger brother burn in a fire accident when she was a child.

“It’s wonderful that Fuddruckers is supporting our fire department in their effort to teach all the kids fire safety,” Sanchez-Koren said. “We definitely encourage everyone to take your family and friends out for dinner, enjoy a wonderful meal and leave knowing that you helped a much needed fire safety program for our local fire department to teach our children.”
