Carolyn Lee Dietz

Carolyn Lee Dietz, 65, Fayetteville, died Aug. 6, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Catherine Anderson, and sisters, Louise McClendon and Jan Anderson. She taught sign language and translated sermons and music for the deaf. She was loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Margaret Claudine Stanley Davis

Margaret Claudine Stanley Davis, 79, lifelong Fayette countian, died Aug. 9, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Claud and Decie Jane Nipper Stanley, and her husband, William Clifton Davis. She was the owner and operator of the Cozy Pines Beauty Shop located in the basement of her home. She often began at 6 a.m. and worked late into the night to accommodate someone. She shared the fruits of her garden with her customers. She regularly visited shut-ins at their home and at Christian City, giving them the pleasure that only a shampoo and set could bring.

Willie Eugenia Clowers

Willie Eugenia Clowers, Newnan, died July 24, 2009. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Stitious Bernard Bussie. She was a native of Forsyth, Monroe County, Ga., and received her elementary and high school training from the Coweta County schools.

Clifford Charles Bridges

Clifford Charles "C. C." Bridges, Newnan, died July 26, 2009. He was born March 30, 1946 in Sargent. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emanuel Elderidge and Emma Lou Meadows Bridges, brothers, James Bridges, Edward Bridges, Jimmy Bridges, and Luther "Bad Boy" Bridges, and a sister, Mary Strozier Ross. He was graduated from Central High School, Newnan, the class of 1964. He was employed by Georgia Power Plant Yates for 40 years, where he served as supervisor.

David Bohannon

David "Bo" Bohannon, 61, Fayetteville, died July 27, 2009. He had served in the United States Army. He worked for Delta Airlines for 34 years.

Mozell Florence Stokes

Mozell Florence Stokes, Newnan, died July 30, 2009. She was born July 23, 1938 in Meriwether County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hayward Stokes, parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Jimmy Florence, a brother, Willard Florence, and a sister, Ophelia Jordan. Services were at Walker Temple C. M. E. Church in Greenville.

Buvenia Warren Steele

Buvenia Warren Steele, 93, Newnan, died July 27, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Evie Hogan Warren, her husband, Lewis Steele, a brother, J. B. Warren, and a son, Stan Steele. She was born April 21, 1916 in Roopville, Ga. She grew up in Heard County in a farming family and attended grade school at Tyus. She sent her entire adult life in Newnan and was the oldest living member of Arnco Baptist Church, which she attended for 70 years. She worked at Arnco Mill for 45 years, at Clover Electronics, and at Stan Steele Surveying.

Monique Raquel Patton Lingenfelter

Monique Raquel Patton Lingenfelter, 40, Fayetteville , N. C. died with her unborn baby boy, Frances Marion, on July 15, 2009. She was born in 1968 in Nashville, Tenn., attended St. Lawrence O'Toole School and Parish in Matteson, Ill, and Rich South High School in Richton Park, Ill. She was a graduate of McIntosh High School, Peachtree City. She attended Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Ala., Gordon College in Barnesville, and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She was with Delta Airlines in 1989 as a flight attendant. She earned many awards from years of service as a volunteer and as a military wife.

Jerry Charles Goodwin

Jerry Charles Goodwin, 64, Fayetteville, died July 15, 2009. He was born May 24, 1945 in Polk County. Memorial services were at New Vision Community Church with Pastor Alan Parker officiating. Survivors include his wife, Mattie M. Goodwin; a son, Edgar Charles Goodwin; a daughter, Lynn Goodwin Eubanks; and grandchildren, Chesney Nichole Eubanks, and Jerry Charles "J.C." Goodwin. Carl J. Hoke Lane Carroll

Hoke Lane Carroll, 44, Newnan, died July 21, 2009. He was a 1983 graduate of Fayette County High School. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with First Baptist Church of Fayetteville Deacon and family friend, Jimmy White officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City.

Melissa Coggin Gibson

Melissa Coggin Gibson, 84, Fayetteville, died July 21, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Moody B. Gibson, brothers, Jack Coggin, Billy Coggin, Robert Coggin, Russell Coggin, and Burrell Coggin, and a sister, Sara Coggin. She was a great cook, and loved the outdoors, being most comfortable working in her yard in her paint stained jeans and flannel shirt. She was a founding member of North Fayette Baptist Church.

Martha Cole, 84, Peachtree City, died July 25, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver A. Cole. She was a para-professional at Peachtree City Elementary School, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City.

Philip C. Sterne

Philip C. Sterne, Newnan, died July 25, 2009. A Memorial Mass was held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Jimmy Adams officiating.

John Keith

John "Coach" Keith, Newnan, died July 4, 2009. He was born July 3, 1939 in Dahlonega, son of the late James Thomas and Lillian Anderson Keith. He was 3rd degree member of the Gold City Masonic Lodge #562, F&AM. His early education was in Lumpkin County in a segregated school system. An outstanding athlete, he played on the Fairstreet High School football team in Gainesville, Ga., that won four state championships. His earned a football scholarship to Fort Valley State University, where he earned a BS in Physical Education in 1963. He later received a Masters of Education from North Georgia College in 1979. He taught for 30 years in the Coweta County school system, retiring from education in 1993. Services were at Smyrna Baptist Church, Newnan with the Rev. Dr. Carol Helton, officiating.

Ophelia Mae Conner Beckom

Ophelia Mae Conner Beckom, 88, Sharpsburg, died July 4, 2009. She was born Feb. 11, 1921 in Coweta County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Hattie Fordem Conner, her husband, Henry Grady Beckom, sons, Larry Beckom, and Meryle Beckom, and grandchildren, Mike Beckom, and Tammy Boynton.

Fayes F. Thomas Jr.

Fayes F. Thomas Jr. , Newnan, died July 4, 2009. He was born June 4, 1930 to the late Fayes F. and Minnie Younis Thomas. He attended Cathedral School, and was graduated from Benedictine Military Academy, Mercer University and the Walter F. George School of Law. He attained the rank of Major in the Judge Advocate General Corps, United States Army. He was a partner in the firm of Kalback and Thomas from 1957 to 1998. He was a leader in the Lebanese American Community of Miami and was named Man of the Year in 1997. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. A funeral mass was at St. George Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Austin Fogarty and the Rev. Father Elie Mikhael officiating.

Thelma Payton Winkles

Thelma Payton Winkles, 89, Newnan, died July 7, 2009. She was born Aril 2, 1920 in Newnan. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Harvey and Annie Bell Samples Payton, and her husband, Willie Frank Winkles. Services were at the McKoon chapel with the Rev. Dr. Melvin Payne officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan.

Thomas Richard Thompson Jr.

Thomas Richard Thompson Jr., Thomaston, died July 10, 2009. He was born Aug. 18 1944 in Coweta County, son of the late Thomas Richard and Lucille Malcolm Thompson Sr. He served two tours of duty in Viet Nam and then entered civilian service in law enforcement. He served a total of 35 years of continuous service. He enjoyed camping on the Chattahoochee River in Heard County.

Lee A. Moss

Lee A. Moss, Newnan, died July 13, 2009. He was born Oct. 15, 1952, son of the late Thomas and Selena Moss. He received his education in the Coweta County school system where he later became a fulltime employee. He was a self-taught musician mastering the drums and electric guitar. He was a member of the original Righteous Brothers Gospel Quarter for several year. He is credited for arranging the sound tracks for "Amazing Grace" and "Sinner Man' on their first album.

Edward McRae Edwards

Edward McRae Edwards, 82, Fayetteville, died July 3, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Edwards, three brothers, five sisters, and a grandson, Andrew Todd Gibby. Services were at the Holly Hill Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Ray Waters officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Edwards; daughters, Vicki Gibby, and Rhonda Clyatt; grandchildren, Jeffrey Clyatt, Brian Clyatt, Christopher Gibby, Brandon Gibby, and Jonathan Gibby; and great-grandson, Lathan Andrew Gibby. Ronald Joseph Licciardi

Ronald Joseph "Ron" Licciardi, Peachtree City, died July 7,2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador and Velda Licciardi, and a brother, Salvador Jr. There were no local services. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy "Dottie" Licciardi, Peachtree City; sons, Ben M. Licciardi and his fiancé. Lara Abuzayyad, Alexandria, Va., and Chris M. Licciardi, and his fiancé Tiffany Smith, Washington, D.C.; and siblings, Joe Licciardi, Jeane Davis, Sally Licciardi, Danny Licciardi, and Lisa Licciardi, all of Louisiana. Carl J. Leonard Grooms

Leonard "Lent" Grooms, 95, Fayetteville, died July 8, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tommie Bell McCoy Grooms, in 1981. He was born in Brooks and worked as a farmer there until he was employed as a printer with Atlanta Constitution. He retired from there in 1979. Services will be tomorrow, Thursday, July 16, at 1 p.m., at New Hope United Methodist Church with the Rev. Belinda McCastle officiating.

Afton Audine Cox Fletcher

Afton Audine Cox Fletcher, 96, Union City, formerly of Graham, Texas, died July 9, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Robert and Andella Cox, her first husband, Eldon A. Gresham, her second husband, Jack L. Fletcher, and a daughter, Patricia A. LaForge. She attended North Texas State Teachers College and taught several years, including a year at a one-teacher school with eight students and two elementary schools in Texas. In 1986 she moved to Peachtree City, where she was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano.
