Fayette, Coweta schools closed Mon. and Tues.

Fayette County public schools and Coweta County public schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday as extremely cold weather, and perhaps icy precipitation, are predicted for the next two days.

Extracurricular activities have also been shut down for Monday and Tuesday in addition to classes.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service are predicting some potentially frozen precipitation, although not snow, overnight. That could lead to black ice on the roads as well, officials said.

Pleassssseeee

No wonder the kids are the way they are today! Let's treat them like babies, not let them experience life's real situations (bein g in the cold) and remember.... No one can fail!

Growing up in the north I had to stand in below zero temps and it didn't kill me.
Today's society is sooo hung up on not allowing young people to fell pain, defeat, failure and the list goes on and on. Its so sickening. Wake up idiots and let kids experience the real world and stop sheltering them from reality!

For God sake... Its cold and windy! And where's the black ice???? When was the last time weather predictions were accurate?

It was so nice in Boston

That you live here now, and still complain about things. I get it.

What you need to keep in mind

What you need to keep in mind is that people here are not as prepared to deal with cold weather as those from Boston. I realize this is normal for you but frigid temperatures such as this occur maybe 3 or 4 days a year at best around here so we don't have closets full of cold weather clothing.

BTW, just because you don't have black ice at your house doesn't mean it's not out there somewhere else..

Us rednecks got plenty of experience being frozen, and not standing for no subway. Until you spend 6 hours on a deer stand in freezing weather as a 9 year old, alone, sleeting and windy, with hand-me-down clothes that don't fit, and gloves with holes in them, being perfectly still and making no noise - don't tell us about the cold. And don't get me started about who is a better driver in the snow and ice.

Weak {{{and BANNED}}}

From the North - this is utterly ridiculous. This is why the simple stereo-type of the "South" being stupid is still something that should be considered as true.

School is now cancelled for two days even though there is no immediate threat? So pathetic and weak...

BANNED for obscene language

PERHAPS icy precipitation.......

" extremely cold weather, and perhaps icy precipitation, are predicted for the next two days."

PERHAPS ICY PRECIPITATION ........and they already cancel for Tuesday?
I don't have a pony in this race anymore BUT to call school cancelled for TWO days on Sunday night????
Some parents are probably saying "Hooray, one more day of vacation. Another day to sleep in."
Others may be saying "Ugh, it is time to get these kids out of the house" and " What am I going to do about childcare."
Either way, I understand that the safety of the students is important. Just think they could evaluate a bit more on Monday to see about Tuesday.
Stay safe and stay warm.

Response to school closing

This is not just about ice or the lack thereof. Children do not need to be standing out in single digit weather waiting for the school bus. There is also the possibility of frozen pipes. How would you like to be trapped in a school building all day with hundreds of students and no bathroom facilities? As far as the profane comment by ESS, I did not post my reply there because he/she/it will probably be banned by the moderator anyway. ESS needs to look in the mirror to see what stupid really looks like. Bless his/her/its little heart! (-:

Not to mention...

....the buildings will probably be pretty cold all day. They do take a while to warm up. People will complain no matter what decision is made.
