Winter weather in outlook for Sunday, Monday

Area residents might want to keep an eye out on the weather later this weekend and into early next week. The National Weather Service Friday afternoon called for the potential for wintry conditions that include rain, sleet and snow beginning Sunday afternoon then changing to sleet and snow for much of Monday. Accumulations of up to two inches are expected.

The extended forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of rain and snow after 1 p.m. on Sunday, with daytime high of 37 degrees and a nighttime low of 29 degrees. The chance of precipitation is expected to increase Sunday night to 80 percent, with rain changing to sleet and snow.

The outlook late Sunday and continuing on Monday calls for a 70 percent chance for a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet with a Monday daytime high of 32 degrees. Accumulations of up to two inches or more are possible for south metro Atlanta and parts of central Georgia along a line from LaGrange to Monticello to Washington.

The situation Monday night is currently forecast to include a slight chance of freezing rain with a low around 29 degrees.

The Tuesday is expected to be near 35 degrees with mostly cloudy skies.
