4-way stop: No promises

I believe that I am the person who initiated the request for some accommodation to allow golf carts to cross Redwine Road at the Quarters/Birkdale intersection.

The presidents of the Whitewater Creek and Highgrove subdivisions have shared my interest in finding a way to meet this need.

After considerable discussion we all agreed that the most practical approach would be to install a four-way stop at the intersection.

As we pursued these discussions, it became obvious that crossing by foot, bicycle, golf cart or even automobile presented clear dangers to our residents, thus making the four-way stop an important safety consideration as well.

We worked with Commissioner Brown and [Fayette County Public Works Director] Phil Mallon to see how to best meet our concerns.

Contrary to the statements attributed to Commissioner Barlow, Commissioner Brown at no time promised us that he would have the four-way stop installed. He agreed only to work with Mr. Mallon and the other commissioners to help reach a solution.

This is exactly what a constituent should expect from any elected official. I take strong exception to Mr. Barlow’s allegation that we were promised anything by Commissioner Brown.
