Commissioners reconcile; Brown reelected 5–0

Rather than fireworks, there was rapprochement Thursday night as Fayette County Commission Chairman Steve Brown was reelected without opposition in a unanimous show of harmony.

Calling the recent stories of discontent with Brown’s leadership style a “family spat,” Brown declared all hostilities were behind him and called for a continued spirit of cooperation with commissioners Charles Oddo, David Barlow, Allan McCarty and Randy Ognio.

Oddo, who in a December email, had said he would challenge Brown for the ceremonial top spot unless Brown discontinued unilateral blogging and writing letters to the editor, echoed Brown’s desire for a unified public front for the commission.

Oddo was elected vice chairman, also on a 5–0 vote.

Details and full story to follow.

Mr .B the cat and his stripes.

Peace for a day, is it only a rest-bit from the on-line who-hah ?

No doubt the controversy will return and the calm only temporary as the cat will find it difficult to change his stripes.

Appeasement has never been good foreign policy and likely in this case it will fail too.

At some point the board will be forced to address the situation.

Probably the easy opportunity available to them has passed. But I sure that they sat around thinking about what it would be like to work 'as a team' with Mr. B. removed from the helm and a shiver went down the collective spines.

Looking forward to the on-line dialogue in the coming year....

Mudcat causing trouble, again

I have no intention of running against Matt Ramsey or Lynn Westmoreland. You can stop stirring the pot now.

2014 dialogue. I am looking forward to it as well.

March 7 is when challengers to Matt Ramsey and Lynn Westmoreland need to sign up and declare they are a candidate for the 2014 election. With anti-incumbent attitudes at an all-time high, this would be the year for a tea party backed fringe candidate to come forward and get swept into office or at least to oust the incumbent in the primary. Will he or won't he? We shall see.

Good News Indeed

Thank you Commisioners for working it out and showing leadership. I wish you all luck in the comming new year. I for one like reading Steve Browns Letters and hope other Commisioners wrote letters so we know where they stand on issues. Blogging might be another issue as the ice gets awfully thin on these blogs. Tread lightly and be sure you stand behind what you write.

I completely agree. One of the main reasons I voted for Steve Brown was because I knew where he stood on all of the issues, due to his writing.

I truly wish more of our commissioners would do the same.

If they aren't comfortable blogging, it would be very helpful to everyone if they would write a monthly News Letter or Letter to the Editor. Interviews are helpful, however a personal letter written to citizens would give us a true feeling of what each commissioner is about.

Since being elected, Steve Brown has taken communication to a great new level with the County News Letter and liberal Commission Meeting Public Comments. Granted Steve is a gifted writer. We can't all do that. Personally speaking, writing skills are not that important. The important thing to me is a personal communication from our public officials. I would greatly appreciate someone making the effort to give me a personal opinion.

Allen McCarty put forth the effort to make sure that folks who can't attend the commission meetings are still able to actually see and hear what happens through our computers.

I feel very comfortable and positive about our current BOC. They are a great bunch of guys, and they all truly care about Fayette County and her citizens.

Good news

I am glad that the board renewed Steve Brown as chair. For whatever reasons they used for their vote, it was the right decision. As McCarty said at the end of the meeting, he was swamped with emails and calls, more than any other issue, and he is there to represent this county with what we want him to do. 96% of them were pro-Brown.

I do believe they all have a few more grey hairs as a result of this, but I applaud their actions and believe they are all wiser as a result. A note to Mr. Barlow..your actions toward the board and the citizens were honorable, but your left-handed compliment toward Mr. Mallon fell short. Funny toward a personal friend or in a personal setting, not so funny in a public forum, with you being in your commission position, especially tonight. Also, throwing things at staff, even as a joke, is not funny, either. Keep trying, you might get it right in the next 3 years. Or not.

MLC - more annoyances

One county resident seems to be an expert on everything. Got up to speak 2-3 times. Does he ever shut up or does he just like to hear himself talk?

What an annoying, stupid, boring man. One way ticket to somewhere else? I will pitch in on that so we all don't get bored to death with his constant dumb comments and writings in the newspaper. What about his comparison of a roundabout in Whitesburg GA with 50 residents as compared to Hwy 92 S that has 17000 cars per day??? How did we all get along in Fayette before he became politically aware?

My 42 yrs of experience with the US Army tells me that many, if not most, former Colonels cannot resist trying to be in the limelight, regardless of the issue. It's a personality thingy (maybe called "Order of the Eagle") and no matter the intent of the individual, it's going to be perceived as "Hey, I know more than you". It's up to us, as the individual recipients of his offerings to accept or reject what he says. I do not know Mr. Ross but I think he, Dennis Chase and Scott Bennett should form a company and offer their consulting services to Fayette County on a "pro bono" basis!

No....and....yes. I noticed that, too. Some kind of communicable disease, I think...called fayettevisionexpertococcus. That and hemmerhoids, my guess. The cure involves duct tape and a bus pass, one way, after a large injection of Tuck's.

However, no one was more annoyed or annoying than that little tree stump at the end who was so confused he thought he was in Judge Judy's courtroom and forgot to pay the fine on the way out the door. No wonder these commissioners have been mopping up messes for the last 12 months. Good grief.

In honor of this weekend and till the Bowl on 2/2, I say give a 2 minute warning with penalties for uncitizenlike conduct, delay of meeting, and defensive putz interference. Roughing the microphone should be cause for ejection.

However, keep in mind, when the choices are this or Duck Dynasty? Let me think about that one...

I think he was disappointed the MMA fight didn't break out, lol. I think there were some in the crowd that came for that too.

Golly Molly, when I got home, my wife who watched on TV asked about him. When I explained who he was, she laughed and bet me his wife sends him out, so she doesn't have to listen to him.

But, everyone talked too long. Note cards people. Hit the facts and stop. No need to discuss the beauty of Rome and the round-a-bouts. Stick to the facts.

Josh, you're right about getting other commissioners to write about their thoughts. We want to know what they think before the vote, so we know whether or not to call them and voice our opinion. If they don't communicate with us in various methods, than perhaps we all just need to bombard them with phone calls and emails. I think if everyone did that, they will be forced to utilize a letter now and then.

H & F amd Commissioner's Opinions

Disagree. When you vote, you are delegating your vote on whatever issues to that Commissioner. You are no more special than any other citizen and you agree to accept and abide by that Commissioner's vote who you help to elect. If you want to know about a specific issue, call, or send an email--I think you'll get an answer. I always have.

I have not been as lucky

3 of 5 have never responded to my emails. Only one responds and allows a dialogue. Guess your address may have more pull than mine.

So I guess I will have to depend on my voting for some on board to vote as I would hope.

Or perhaps they all will start responding as they should.
