RN Peggy Troyer, a nurse in Surgical Services at Piedmont Newnan Hospital, has been awarded the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

The award is part of a national program honoring nurses for clinical skills and compassionate care of patients and their families.

Troyer was nominated because of the exemplary care she gave to a patient who received a devastating diagnosis. Troyer was drawn to tears by the patient’s situation and visited daily, even on her days off, to offer support.

“Peggy is a fine example of the type of nurse we have working here at Piedmont Newnan Hospital,” said Jason Smith, vice president and chief nursing officer. “Nurses are everyday heroes and the DAISY Award is an important way to let our nurses know their work is highly valued.”

Troyer joins an elite group of 16 nurses at Piedmont Newnan Hospital who have received the DAISY Award since the hospital adopted the program in 2013. Nurses can be nominated by colleagues, physicians, patients and visitors. Honorees are chosen monthly by a selection committee.
