Rebecca Stewart Carey, 95, passed away Jan. 6, 2012. A woman of quiet dignity, she exuded southern grace, kindness and warmth and was affectionately called Muzzy by all who knew her.

Born in 1916, Rebecca grew up in Clarkesville, Ga., the daughter of a local merchant whose store served Habersham county in dry goods, hardware and groceries. After high school, she attended Piedmont College and the University of Georgia.

Rebecca was married for over 49 years to John F. Carey, Jr., a WWII veteran who died in 1978. She was a member of Clarkesville United Methodist Church.

She moved to Peachtree City where she spent 24 contented years but her heart was always in the mountains. She became a member of Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church, studied in a Precept Bible study for 20 years. She lived happily at Heritage of Peachtree for over seven years, was active in many events and served on the Resident Council in 2009.

As an 80+ year old grandmother, she accompanied her family on many exciting spring breaks. A true believer in her Christian faith, she was loved by many and will be missed by all.

She is survived by daughters, Lane Carey Hallwood of Peachtree City and Beth Carey Wallace of Atlanta, and three grandsons, Patrick J. Hallwood of Atlanta, C. Judson Wallace of Barcelona/Atlanta, and J. Stewart Wallace of Atlanta.

A memorial service will be held at Heritage of Peachtree, 1967 Highway 54 West, Fayetteville, Ga., at 2:30 ON JAn. 25, 2012.
