The Fayetteville Police Department is gearing up for its 6th annual Citizens Police Academy where participants can learn about all kinds of law enforcement topics including evidence processing and firearms training.

Academy sessions will be held every Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. beginning March 10 and ending May 19 with a week off for Spring Break.

The program combines both classroom training and hands on experience in the following areas: defensive tactics, patrol functions, criminal investigations, evidence and crime scene processing, firearms, domestic violence, K-9, courts, gang and drug awareness.

All classes are taught by veteran police officers.

Candidates must pass a background check with no felony convictions. Anyone is encouraged to apply but Fayetteville citizens will be given preference.

All graduates will have the opportunity to conduct “ride-alongs” with officers and participate in the Fayetteville Auxiliary Force.

Deadline for applications is Feb. 15.
