Senoia resident and Piedmont Healthcare executive Lisa Hedenstrom has been appointed to the Georgia Board of Examiners of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) Board by Governor Nathan Deal.

“I’m honored to have been selected to serve on the Georgia LPN Board,” said Hedenstrom. “I am committed to providing the state of Georgia the most qualified nurses available to ensure the best healthcare for our citizens.”

Hedenstrom is Piedmont Healthcare’s senior vice president and system chief nursing officer. She is the only representative from Piedmont Healthcare to serve on the LPN Board in recent years, according to Piedmont officials. The official swearing–in ceremony took place in the governor’s office.

“We are extremely proud of Lisa for her recent appointment to the Georgia LPN Board,” said Patrick M. Battey, M.D., interim chief executive officer of Piedmont Healthcare. “Since becoming the system-wide chief nursing officer on July 1, she has made significant strides in our organization, demonstrating her leadership skills each day while managing our nursing staff.”

Hedenstrom’s LPN Board statewide duties will include overseeing licensing for qualified nursing applicants, setting regulations and standards for licensed practical nurses, enforcing rules for licensed practical nurses, developing uniform standards and evaluating nursing educational programs.

Before she was chief nursing officer of Piedmont Healthcare, Hedenstrom had worked at Piedmont Fayette Hospital since November 2001. There, she was responsible for the oversight of all nursing areas, developed a nursing leadership program and led major clinical expansion projects for emergency services, critical care, surgical services, medical/surgical services and women’s services.

Prior to joining Piedmont, Hedenstrom served in nursing leadership roles at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale and Northeast Georgia Health System in Gainesville.
