Mildred Wells, 92, passed away Jan. 16, 2012. Born in 1919, Mildred grew up in the small community of Knoxville, Mo., the daughter of a farmer who raised hogs and grew corn and other crops.

She and her sister rode a pony to a one-room schoolhouse each day, and their Dad built a small shed to shelter the pony at the school during cold winter Missouri days. She attended high school in nearby Richmond, Mo., boarding in town during the week with a friend and returning home to the farm on weekends.

After graduation, she returned home to live and began working in Richmond. Her path each day took her past the newly-built Civil Aeronautics Association Weather Station, where she caught the attention of the newest employee there. She met and eventually married Chester W. Wells (1917-1982).

Mildred and Chet, through his job with the C.A.A. and ultimately F.A.A. lived in Kansas City, Oklahoma City and Atlanta, and after retiring, moved to Peachtree City. She had been living at Heritage of Peachtree for almost four years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Mildred enjoyed playing bridge, trips to the mountains, and loved her family, especially her grandsons.

She is survived by her daughters Barbara Wells Woodell of Douglasville and Jane Wells Hives of Peachtree City, as well as two grandsons, Lile Woodell and Evan Hives.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at Carl J. Mowell & Son in Peachtree City. Visitation will be from 3-4 p.m., and the Memorial Service will begin at 4 p.m.
