Phyllis Gerard Allan passed away on January 19, 2015.

She was born in the Bronx, N.Y. to parents, William and Josephine Damelio. She holds a BA in psychology from Hunter College in New York City, a Master’s in Education (plus 65 credits) from Hofstra University, and a Master’s in Divinity from Immaculate Conception Seminary in New York.

She worked for 15 years as an elementary school teacher in Commack, Long Island, N.Y. After retirement, she provided extensive volunteer service to Hospice; crisis response at a Battered Women’s Shelter on Long Island; NYS/the Georgia Ombudsman Program; nursing homes; literacy; as a Eucharistic Minister to the sick; as a receptionist at the Fayette Care Clinic, and at Piedmont Fayette Hospital Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Michael Gerard and George Allan; her parents; and brother, William Damelio.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Janet Gerard and Gary Massengale; her sister, Catherine Napolitano; her long-time companion, John Klug and his son, Bill Klug; her grandchildren, Laura Massengale and her fiancé’ Ryan Tapscott, Michael Massengale and his wife Meghan Lane, and Diana Massengale. She is also survived by Joanne Condurso, Christine Novak and Billy Damelio along with Irene Gatto and Debbie D’Amico. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.higginshillcrestchapel.com.

Her family and network of friends all over the United States will miss her inquisitive mind, supportive ear, pearls of wisdom, and stories.

Her funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on February 7, 2015 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City. A reception will immediately follow the mass. She requested that donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul or a charity of choice.
