Plans have fallen through for a new Chick-fil-A restaurant that was planned to open along Ga. Highway 54 West at Line Creek Drive in Peachtree City, the company confirmed Tuesday.

The upshot is that the company will keep its current store on Hwy. 54 East open, a company spokesperson said. The company is also “eager to expand within the Peachtree City area” and is currently exploring other location possibilities, according to spokesperson Mark Baldwin.

The Chick-fil-A restaurant slated for Hwy. 54 West was approved by the planning commission last year and would have been located in front of the proposed Overlook shopping center at Line Creek Drive, directly off the highway and next to a RaceTrac convenience store and gas station.

The developer of The Overlook is asking the city to apply for a traffic light on Hwy. 54 to serve the shopping center. Without the Chick-fil-A restaurant in the plans, however, there may be a significant drop in the number of cars projected to use the shopping center area.

A new concept plan for The Overlook submitted by the developer in mid-December still shows a Chick-fil-A restaurant on the plans that are being used to justify the traffic light.

The possible traffic light will be discussed by the Peachtree City Council Thursday at 7 p.m. during its regular meeting.
