Longbranch will be part of Food Network's 'Restaurant Impossible'
Longbranch Steak and Seafood at 805 S. Glynn St. in Fayetteville will be a part of Food Network’s “Restaurant Impossible.” Chef Robert Irvine will have two days and $10,000 to revamp the restaurant. Longbranch will have their grand reopening on the evening of Thursday, March 15 and Longbranch will be taking reservations that evening. Interested parties can call 770-461-9982 to make a reservation. The grand reopening will be filmed as part of the show.
Yes I know the Restaurant Impossible guys may not have helped much but 5 months later the service and food finished off LongBranch. The owners just did not know what they were doing. Restaurants are one of the hardest business to maintain and unfortunately they tanked a Fayetteville staple.
OMG OMG OMG...
I have tried since Wednesday night to put words to my thoughts concerning what I saw on Restaurant Impossible with the Longbranch. I don't think the English language possesses the words that would properly convey the disgust and outrage I feel towards the owners and the staff of Longbranch and the Fayette County Health Department.
Each and every one of you was fully aware of the filth and unsanitary conditions present throughout this restaurant and you each chose to do nothing to improve the conditions! You continued to cook and serve loyal customers from this cesspool of a restaurant!
I have been a regular customer of this establishment for years, where everyone knew my name... and I feel betrayed, as I trusted that the conditions in the kitchen would be acceptable – but they were far, far from being almost acceptable. Lisa, how could you sleep at night knowing of the filth, the nastiness and the intense infestation of roaches in the kitchen of your restaurant? Lacking a backbone and not managing the staff in a restaurant is one thing, but the lack of cleanliness and refusal to pick up a scrubby and clean is the epitome of laziness! Every one of your workers, including yourself and your family members working at the Longbranch are guilty of absolute laziness and should be ashamed. There is no excuse for such filth! You have lost my trust forever and I will never step foot through the doors of Longbranch again.
The Fayette County Health Department has been known to be strict and it was my impression that they would never allow their community to be subjected to filth such as what was shown to the nation last Wednesday. That establishment did not get that nasty in just a couple of months - that was an accumulation of many months, perhaps years of nastiness. How in the world did the Longbranch continue to score high enough on their inspections not to be shut down by the health department? Someone within the health department needs to be held accountable for this huge and potentially dangerous oversight.
I do believe I will refrain from eating at restaurants – at least the ones in Fayette County. If I can’t trust the owners to care about their customers and I can’t trust the health department to look out for the community, I will just stay at home to eat and pack my meals when I must be away from home at mealtime.
I have also noticed how empty the parking lot is. Unfortunately, I'm afraid this is going to make it worse.
I'm a longbranch regular and all I can say is, I must have a great immune system. If that filth got "A"s from the health department what does it take to get less? I really love that restaurant but I seriously doubt I can stomach going back again. I know it was cleaned up by the show but I don't think I trust that the clean up has been maintained. My heart hurts for the owners in a way because I know the show was supposed to help their business but I fear its done the opposite. But then again, if you're going to feed the public you deserve to have such filth exposed. I'm conflicted. Wow. There goes the best burger in Fayette County.
How many times did they have to show that disgusting goop in the cooler? I couldn't help but gag every time they showed it! What a disgusting place! Looks like all of the employees mirrored the attitude of the owner.....obviously she didn't care. There is no excuse for filth! I regret the fact that I ever ate there. I question Lisa's commitment to make the necessary changes to manage the place when she promotes her daughter to sift manager after all of the complaints from other employees. Would really motivate me that things were going to change.....NOT! Go by the restaurant quite often and see a nearly empty parking lot. Me thinks that Lindsay is still having to write BIG checks.
I remembered seeing the article in the Citizen about the Food Network show being at this restaurant several months ago, and saw that it was going to be on last night. My wife and I watched in disbelief at generally just how disgusting the place was. I’ve never eaten there and after watching last night could never bring myself to even walking into the place. I’m not sure that a one-time clean-up, paint and wallpaper, a pergola and showing the “cooks” (if that’s what you call them) how to make a couple dishes could ever improve things there. I’m sorry but I don’t know how spending a couple days with a restaurant staff and management that didn’t know before how to clean, control insects, cook or manage a restaurant could possibly change anything. I just wonder how the Fayette County Health Department hadn’t shut this place down before being on that show. It really makes me wonder about other restaurants in the county, especially the privately owned, non-franchised or chain restaurants which don’t have their own management and standards to abide by.
Did anyone see this show tonight? The season premiere of Restaurant Impossible on Food TV. It will be rebroadcast on July 18th at 9PM, according to Food TV's website.
Check out the Food TV website www.foodtv.com/ri (Go down to Restaurant Impossible)
There is a new version of the Fayette County Health Dept. restaurant inspection page (hmmm..coincidence?). It's not listed under Longbranch, but under The Branch Restaurant, Inc. dba Longbranch...

I missed the first 10 minutes, but I caught the next 10 minutes, and what I saw made me gag. Literally. I cannot remember ever gagging watching a TV show, but there is a first for everything, I guess. The fact that this place got a 69 inspection in March of 2011, right before the show filmed, makes me wonder why this wasn't shut down by our Health Dept. right then.
Having just come back and read updated comments on this thread, I would be curious to hear from Lisa (the owner) as to how she thinks things have changed/improved. Very curious that the TV show brought someone back weeks before this show premiered to provide guidance. Again. A suggestion to Larry..next time you want to buy your bride a gift, get her some nice jewelry or a trip to the Fiji Islands.
I will still spend my dining dollars elsewhere...I could not walk into this place without thinking of the truly gross conditions I saw tonight.
I do not see where this is in any way a selling point for the FC Chamber of Commerce or any other entity trying to attract businesses here, especially to Fayetteville. That is a shame.
I realize the $10,000. was a lure to be on TV, but man, you gotta decide if the message is more powerful than the money when you market your business.
All I can say after seeing the show is, EEEK! My skin is still crawling.
man, can you believe what you saw? I won't sleep tonight.
I'll never take an ice cube for granted again, either. "Nuff said. Blechhhh.
I ate lunch with a companion at Longbranch yesterday, and when my companion bit into a foreign object in her salad, we notified our server of what had happened. She took our check to the manager, and returned shortly advising us that the charges for the salad had been removed from our bill. My companion asked to see the manager (who had not come out to apologize), and when he appeared, we advised him that we felt that it would be more appropriate to comp her entire meal (which only amounted to $12 or $13). He advised that he felt that he had "done enough", and would make no further restitution, because "people do things like this" (referring to placing foreign objects in their food deliberately). We then discovered that this manager was, in fact, a consultant who had been hired as a result of Longbranch's affiliation with the TV show Restaurant Impossible, and that he was their new "hired gun" who was put into place to "improve" the restaurant profits. We were further advised (by a restaurant employee) that he was only serving as manager temporarily, and that one of the changes that he had instituted was to decrease the size of food portions and raise the price of those portions, all for the sake of said profitability. As we continued to exchange points of view with this manager, we pointed out that this type of management would only serve to offend long-time customers, and that we felt that the owner would, in the long run, suffer negative consequences due to the type of impression that this management style was making. In the end, the manager continued to behave in a very condescending manner to us, and let us know that our refusal to return to Longbranch was ok with him. In summary, I'm sorry to say that this long-standing Fayetteville fixture will no longer be one of my stops at lunch or dinner time. I believe that the owner has erred in allowing these consultants to take over her restaurant, and I fear that small-town America is once again being tainted by the likes of big-city greed. Oh, and for the record, Mr. Manager - we can afford to buy a meal, thank you very much, and don't need to place foreign objects into the food to score a lunch. Maybe you should pay more attention to the quality of customer service that you provide, and less attention to serving the almight dollar.
Today is April 17, 2012. Just came from lunch at Longbranch and as far as I could see Robert Irvine never was here.
It was really bad.
What happened?
@goldie394 WOW were your eye's closed? The place really look's great since they have started hanging some of the (OLD STUFF) back on the wall's... I suggest the next time you go in ask a wait staff to get the MENU that was left for them to serve. We went in the Friday after the show it looked naked!!! The menu was over priced for F'ville, and people that have been coming in there(like me) from day one were getting up and leaving! What does that tell ya? JUST SAYING:)
Waitin' to hear from all the rednecks and peeps with britches that ain't too big to tell us how the new joint is......is it worthy of a city slicker now?
Oops -wrong restaurant. I've never been to the Longbranch that is in the Kroger shopping area. Sorry
You got it right--same name, just different location. And they did have some decent lunch specials and friendly employees. Oh, and beer was cold and so was Jaegermeister!
So LB & Melear's didn't have good scores because who ate there? Actually, I ran a restaurant in Athens and 40 years ago health inspections were a joke. But you run the place. You eat there. Your help eats there. Everyone's friend and family eats there. And you are going to tell me that a place is a dire health hazard? If it is ever that bad the inspector outta put a lock on the door.
Where did I mention anything about health inspections or scores? Hey, I can screw things up enough on my own--don't need help!
My point was more, I know people who look on the web for the scores and I AM 40 yrs removed, they were a joke. I don't think most people of conscience put themselves, employees, family & friends at risk.
the former sheriff held court over?
www.fayettecountyga.gov and look at the restaurant inspections
old building 1/27/10--98 A; 6/15/10--96A;

Pull up 3/22/2011 it says 91 A....Routine
then pull up 3/25/2011 it says 100 A....follow-up
8/19/11 91 A .....Routine
2/16/12 91 A .....Routine
looks like someone made a mistake on the paper work..
Thanks for the info
went and looked for myself its all posted on the wall. I have redneck friends that work there.
You'll find them under the Health Dept. FYI, 3 days ago, current and last 5 inspections were available--today, I can only find the current one.
POSTIVE THINKING, everyone has an OPINION, and some people are not ashamed to ask for help when needed, my hat's off to them. My family has eaten at Longbranch for years( grand's, my parents,my family,friends...etc...) and we love the place and the people. Change is good and we hope they are there for many more years. Oh and by the way I see the owners and employees at Kroger all the time everyone has to buy their food some where and I do believe Publix closes at 10pm. Cook shrimp hahahaha.....Freedom of speach. Just saying pep's.....anyone can shop where ever they want to.....anyone can eat where ever they want to.
can go into the Longbranch and make all the changes he feels are necessary. However, if there is no true pride in ownership, it will be right back to the same old Longbranch. Personally, I feel that it is going to be a waste of TLC's/Chef Irvine's time and money. It's just too redneck to amount to much more than it is.
The cows and rednecks were here in Fayette County way before all the city slickers showed up and they'll be here long after they're gone. I can assure you that a lot of us would much prefer to dine with those whose britches weren't too big by thinking they're better than others!
This is so exciting. I almost didn't make the reservation list. It booked very quickly. I think all your regular customers like me want to celebrate with you. See you on Thursday.
By the time I found out it was booked so we have a table for friday. I'm so excited can't wait.
They do make the best burger around - they were my wife's craving when pregnant last year.
I just wish the menu had a little more variety and the prices were a little lower.
I was in Kroger a couple of weeks ago. One of their employees was buying a tray of cooked shrimp. I was thinking that was rather odd at the time. Never been in the place because I have heard it's always filthy.
Oh yes, can't wait to be the first in line. I always frequent places that get a 69 UNsatisfactory on their health dept. score and a year later still need 10k to clean the place up. As Rachael Ray says, 'yumm-o".
Where did you get your info?
You're right about the sanitation inspections. I just know that the last time I was there (been twice), my wife commented about the place being dirty and there was a male circulating among the patrons wearing a filthy apron--definitely poor form!
