The school resource officer directing traffic at Whitewater Middle School Tuesday morning was struck and slightly injured after being hit by a vehicle leaving the school.

SRO Toby Spencer was directing traffic on Ga. Highway 85 and Christopher Drive when a motorist leaving the school struck him with her vehicle, said Maj. Bryan Woodie with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Spencer on being struck landed on the hood of the vehicle then fell onto the street when the vehicle came to a stop, Woodie said.

“I expect him to be okay,” Woodie said of Spencer, who was transported to Piedmont Fayette Hospital as a precaution.

The Georgia State Patrol investigated the incident and cited the driver with failure to obey an officer directing traffic, said Woodie.
