Fayette Senior Services gets transportation grant

Fayette Senior Services has been awarded a $97,000 transportation grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission.

The funding will help the transportation voucher program for

older adults and disabled persons. The money is coming from a pool of more than $2.5 million in federal transportation funds.

The grant funding is aimed at addressing transportation needs “faced by low-income earners, disabled persons and older adults commuting for the purpose of obtaining and maintaining employment or making other quality of life trips,” according to a news release by the ARC.

Government agencies, transportation providers and non-profit organizations may use the grants to fund capital expenses and operating costs that involve reverse commuting, travel voucher programs or other programs that benefit low-income earners, disabled persons and/or older adults who use transit or other transportation alternatives for trips related to employment, medical needs, basic necessities and other quality of life issues.
