An after-prom party at the home of a Sandy Creek High School assistant principal early Sunday morning was interrupted by several males who approached a group of students on the street, robbed them and fired several shots as they fled on foot. No injuries were reported.

Sheriff Barry Babb said the incident occurred in the early morning hours of March 23 when Sandy Creek High School students were attending an after-prom party at the Camelot Drive home of Sandy Creek Assistant Principal Shannon Lain.

Upon their arrival at the scene of the robbery call, deputies found that there were multiple victims who told officers that they had been robbed of cash, cell phones and other personal belongings, Babb said.

“The victims were attendees at an after-prom party being held on Camelot Drive. They were standing on the street when they were approached by eight to nine black males brandishing pistols,” said Babb. “After the items were taken from the victims, several of the perpetrators discharged their weapons as they fled on foot. None of the victims were struck or injured.”

Babb said Lain made the call to report the incident, which took place in the street near her residence.

Babb described the perpetrators as eight to nine young black males wearing dark clothing. Several of the males are described as having dreadlocks.

Babb said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
