Celebrate Easter — Easter services at local churches this week
It’s Easter once again on the southside and Christians everywhere are preparing to celebrate the holiest of Christian events, the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. Most observances started last Sunday with the celebration of Palm Sunday and will continue through this Sunday with the observance of events leading up to Jesus’s death and resurrection.
The traditional Community Good Friday gathering of area churches for the service of the Seven Last Words of Christ will be held this year at First Baptist Church of Peachtree City on Friday, April 22, starting at noon.
Several clergy from the area will participate. The service should last approximately two hours. Those whose schedule requires it may feel free to arrive late or leave early.

The following churches have announced their Easter events and services:
All Saints Anglican Church in Peachtree City will continue its Holy Week observance with a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. on April 21. A Prayer Vigil will follow through the night.
On April 22, a Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m.
Morning prayer will begin on Holy Saturday, April 23, at 9 a.m. No Easter Vigil service will be held that evening.

Bethany United Methodist Church will begin Holy Week activities with a soup supper and Maundy Thursday service Thursday, April 21 at 6 p.m.
The Easter Sunday Sunrise Service is planned for 7 a.m., April 24, followed by breakfast for all in the fellowship hall. Brooks United Methodist Church’s Holy Week events include a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. April 21, a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. April 22, and an Easter “Egg”stravaganza from 3 – 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. Also, Joe Turner, well known for his many television appearances, will entertain.
The church will have an Easter Sunday Community Sunrise Service at Brooks Cemetery, at 7 a.m. April 24. Church members will serve breakfast at the church following the Sunrise Service.
Easter Sunday worship at Brooks will be at 9 a.m. (Contemporary Worship), and 11 a.m. (Traditional Worship).

The Cathedral of Christ the King, 4881 Ga. Hwy. 34 E, Sharpsburg, has announced Holy Week services and activities.
On Wednesday April 20, also called Holy Wednesday, there will be a service of the Stations of the Cross at 7:30 p.m.
On Thursday April 21, Maundy Thursday services will be held at 7:30 p.m. with the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist and the dramatic stripping of the altar.
On Friday April 22, the church will share with nine other churches in the Community Good Friday Services to be held at Peachtree City First Baptist Church at noon.
A children’s Easter Egg Hunt will be conducted on the Church campus at 2 p.m. on Saturday April 23.
And on Sunday April 24 the church will celebrate Easter Sunday during services at 8:30 and 10 a.m.

The Catholic Church of St. Gabriel will have the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday at 7 p.m. A Communion Service and Veneration of the Cross will be observed at 3 p.m. on good Friday. An Easter Vigil Mass will be celebrated on Holy Saturday at 8:45 p.m. Masses on Easter Sunday will be celebrated at 8 and 10:30 a.m. and at 12:30 p.m.

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church will continue Holy Week events on Maundy Thursday, April 21, when two separate services will be held: one at 12:15 p.m. and one at a 7 p.m. joint worship with First Presbyterian Church (at COS), featuring a combined choir from both churches. Dr. David Miller will preach.
On Good Friday, April 22, at 4 p.m., the annual Crosswalk from Christ Our Shepherd to Picnic Park will take place.
At 8 p.m. the church will host a Tenebrae Service, “The Seven Last Words of Christ” (Dubois) with Sanctuary Choir and orchestra.
After worship, members will hold a Prayer Vigil until Easter.
On Holy Saturday, April 23, the Vigil of Easter will be observed from 7-8 p.m.
On Easter Sunday, several services are planned. The first will be an 8:15 a.m. worship service in the Fellowship Hall, designed and led by youth, followed by Festival Worship in the sanctuary at 8:30, 10, and 11:15 a.m. A 10:50 a.m. service with GraceFlock (contemporary) Worship also is scheduled.

Dogwood Church invites the community to its Easter Weekend Celebration Saturday and Sunday, April 23-24. The celebration begins Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with an Easter Egg Drop from a helicopter. Thousands of eggs filled with candy and prizes will fall from the sky. Children are encouraged to keep an eye out for the golden eggs. The event is co-sponsored by Chick-fil-A Fairburn. Chick-fil-A will also have food for sale that morning.

Dogwood Church will have four weekend Easter worship services. Saturday, April 23, services will be at 5 and 6:30 p.m. On Sunday, April 24, services will be held at 9:30 and 11 a.m.
For elementary aged kids, a juggler and unicyclist will appear in “The Quest” during each of the worship services.

The Eleventh Hour Call Church will host a special Good Friday evening service at the Harvest Christian Community Center in Fayetteville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22. The Episcopal Church of the Nativity’s schedule for Holy Week includes a continuation of Stations of the Cross on Wednesday, April 20, at 7 p.m.
On Thursday, April 21, the church will have a Maundy Thursday service with foot washing at 7 p.m.
A “Garden Watch” vigil will be held from 9 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday
On Friday, April 22, the Good Friday liturgy will start at noon; the Good Friday liturgy with Passion Play will be held at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, April 23, Holy Saturday prayers will be observed at noon; The Great Vigil of Easter will be observed at 8 p.m.

Heritage Christian Church in Fayetteville will present, “The Lake Experience: The Path to the Savior” on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24, 6-8pm. “The Path to the Savior,” is a walking tour on the church’s lake property that is based on the miraculous, life-changing “touch” of Jesus as He lived out His walk of suffering. A guest presenter from the Antiquity Center in LaGrange will lead the group through Scripture teachings on the Last Supper in the context of the Passover and first century middle-eastern culture.
A Mediterranean meal with Passover elements will be served Mediterranean style (eaten by hand), followed by Holy Communion.
This event is open to all ages. Childcare is available by reservation only for birth-Pre-K.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-10 years. There is a $30 maximum per family. A love offering will be collected for the guest presenter the night of the meal.

An outdoor Sunrise Service is scheduled for 7:30 a.m., a Contemporary Service is planned for 9:15 a.m., and a Pipe Organ Service will be held at 11:15 a.m. An Easter Egg Hunt will be held at 10:50 a.m. The church is at 257 Ga. Providence United Methodist Church will observe the Last Supper of Christ on Maundy Thursday with four short dramatic presentations reenacting Biblical people who were touched by Jesus’ ministry, followed by Holy Communion. Free childcare is provided for children who cannot sit quietly during this reverent service. The service begins promptly at 7 p.m. in the worship center. Those leaving children in childcare in the Children’s Building should plan to arrive early.
Easter Sunday will offer traditional worship at 10 a.m. which will include the adult choir singing “The Hallelujah Chorus” and music by the Handbell Choir. The 9 and 11:11 a.m. contemporary services include praise music by a full worship band led by Adam Holt.

Easter Vigil will begin on Holy Saturday at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Easter Sunday at 8:30 and 11 a.m. in English with an Easter Egg Hunt for the children between Masses.
Mass will be celebrated in Spanish at 12:45 p.m., with an Easter Egg Hunt for Hispanic children after the Mass.
