There will soon be an alteration to the traffic flow along Ga. Highway 34 on the east of its intersection with Ga. Highway 154 at Thomas Crossroads. The Coweta County Commission April 19 approved the installation of a new traffic signal to be paid for by area property owners.

The traffic signal was being proposed at the existing median cut on Hwy. 34 a short distance to the east of the Hwy. 34/154 intersection near the east side of the Kroger shopping center. The new signal will be approximately 800 feet east of the intersection.

An April 19 letter from county Assistant Director of Development and Engineering Tod Handley said property owners on the north and south sides of Hwy. 34 had made the request. Handley said he understood that the Georgia Dept. of Transportation supported the signal installation, adding that once completed DOT will assume maintenance and operational control of the traffic signal.

An April 6 letter from Kroger Atlanta Real Estate representative Arahn Hawkins said both Kroger and Moran Capital, LLC, future property owner on the south side of Hwy. 34, were proposing to install the light at their expense.

Hawkins’ letter also said DOT had been contacted and was supporting the traffic flow improvement. The two companies will be responsible for the monthly utility cost associated with operating the new signal.
