Mrs. Veronica Fontaine, of Peachtree City, Ga., passed away on May 13, 2012 at the age of 90.

Mrs. Fontaine was born and raised in Exchange, Pa., before enlisting in the Coast Guard during WWII. Following basic training she was assigned to a position in New Orleans, La. where she coordinated activities for servicemen before they were shipped out for duty assignments.

In 1944, on a return trip to New Orleans, she was running through a train station in New York and struggling with her baggage. It was at that time that a handsome sailor in uniform grabbed her bags, and told her to “get two seats together, that he would bring the baggage.” That was the first meeting with her future husband, Edmond Fontaine. They married three months later.

As a coast guard wife, Mrs. Fontaine traveled to many duty stations, including Hawaii in 1959 when it officially became one of the United States.

They raised three children together.

Later she became a civilian contractor with the Boeing Co., where she worked with the U.S. Government Petroleum Reserves.

After losing her husband, Veronica moved to Peachtree City, Ga. where she was very active in senior activities. She loved volunteering at the “Gathering Place” in Peachtree City and at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She loved Peachtree City, and being a resident there.

She is preceded in death by her husband Edmond Fontaine.

Mrs. Fontaine is survived by her daughters, Alice Dennehy of Peachtree City, Ga., Ellen Olander of Newnan, Ga.; son Edmond William Fontaine, Jr. of Stockbridge, Vt.; five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
