PTC Council should restore mayor’s pay
Based on the information contained in your 6/24/12 Citizen article and the accompanying letter from GIRMA, I hope the council does the right thing and reverses its decision to reduce the mayor’s pay.
I consider this entire episode as nothing more than a despicable vendetta launched by Eric Imker and agreed upon by the other council members.
Eric Imker telephoned me before this matter was taken before the open City Council meeting. Eric wanted to know if I would join him and others in what I viewed at the time as simply a childish “playground” charade. I promptly told him I would not have anything to do with this.
I strongly believe Eric Imker and the other council members should issue a public apology to the mayor for their unprecedented roles in this matter.

I do not agree with the Mayor. But I believe in the rule of law. Respecfully, Spyglass, you will understand this point when law enforcement comes to arrest you.
St. Thomas More said it well: "I give the devil due process of law for my own sake."
I believe in the rule of law as well. What makes you think that council did not follow the rule of law in their action to dock the Mayor's pay?
what I get.
IF the Mayor is all giddy and righteous, he should have already made his move.
I do understand that reasonable people can disagree on things. Like I said, the ball is in the Mayors court as far as I'm concerned.
If Mr. Imker believes Mayor Haddix stole $10,000 he should have reported it to the PTC Police or the District Attorney. Mayor Haddix would have had his case reviewed by prosecution and law enforcement; a grand jury would review the case; Mayor Haddix would plead to the charges; he would have a trial on the merits.
Instead, Mr. Imker seems to have committed the identical offense which brought Mayor Haddix in to this conflict in the first place.
How little you people understand fundamental concepts of constitutional due process until one of your loved ones comes up against the raw edge of law enforcement.
No one has been arrested illegally. That may be coming soon though and would add to the situation mightily, in my opinion. In fact, I'm pulling for it.
I could easily turn your statement around and say that IF Haddix believes the 10K has been stolen from his pay, he should report it to the PTC Police. There we are, round and round.
All that said, I learned long ago not to talk to the PoPo about much when they start asking questions about things.
The mayor is certainly culpable, do not get me wrong. However, I daresay that I do not see anyone doing the right thing. They are acting like fools.
Don't hold your breath waiting for Council to do that when the Mayor certainly has made zero attempt himself to "apologize" for wasting 10K of taxpayer monies due to his big fat mouth that he can't keep shut.
It all smacks of an ego driven "gotcha" that the council relishes seeing in the newspapers.
If the council, as a unit, really cared about the image of Peachtree City, they would try to resolve their issues out of the spotlight.
So, it seems that all Peachtree City citizens should ask themselves, "What is the motive?"
Are they trying to further the interests of Peachtree City taxpayers? Or, is the motive to further a political career for themselves with the next election?
It all smacks of an ego driven "gotcha" that the council relishes seeing in the newspapers.
Both Haddix and Brown as Mayors based their whole political careers blasting opponents and fellow councilmembers here on the blogs and in numerous Letters to the Editors. Why is it any surprise that when you screw with the rhino, you get the horn?
Haddix is simply awful and brought all of this on himself and the PTC residents by constantly attacking people until the point that he royally screwed up and got sued over it. I don't agree with the manner in which the rest of the Council dealt with this latest episode of Haddix-stupidity, but I understand why they felt like they had to.
When you talk about "ego driven" and "gotcha" politics, there are no two people more involved in that continuously than Steve Brown and Don Haddix. The difference is that after Brown got demolished twice in elections, he managed to dial it back from a "10" to about a "8" on the scales. Haddix is still operating at about "11" on a scale of 1-10, though this latest fiasco has fortunately shut him up for the time being, an unexpected bonus for everyone who cares about PTC.
Well put, Mr. Richter.
I often cringe at the thought of high school students being compelled (as part of school) to sit through these shameless Council meetings. I have never been so embarrassed by our Council.
Not sure why some (a few lackeys) are so confused.
