Even though walls are being built around the Gin Property in Senoia in preparation for the upcoming season of “The Walking Dead” TV show, at the Senoia United Methodist Church, barriers will not be a factor when the local church and the Senoia Optimist Club work together to sponsor the Senoia Area Blood Drive on Aug. 4.

Donors are needed and are welcomed at the upcoming blood drive for the Senoia area from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Senoia United Methodist Church. Members of the Senoia Optimist Club will help to host the event and will offer blood donors their “famous” grilled cheese sandwiches along with a number of free coupons from local area businesses.

The Senoia United Methodist Church – site of the blood drive – is in the historic district of Senoia and is located at 229 Bridge Street. It is at the intersection of Seavy and Bridge Streets. For those not familiar with the area, you can turn east at the downtown intersection of Main Street and Seavy Street, and go past the Veranda Bed & Breakfast towards the city park or Ga. Highway 85. The church is on the right – only about 2 blocks east of Main Street.

It is anticipated that those who donated at the Optimist Club’s last blood drive will be personally notified about the upcoming effort and given the opportunity to schedule their appointments to better meet their needs. If necessary, potential donors may either sign up online at http://www.redcrossblood.org/ or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). In addition, Senoia Optimist Club member and blood drive coordinator Ivie Bowman may be contacted at 678-378-7151. Please remember, too, that “walk-ins” are always welcome at these drives.

Donors at the Senoia blood drive are again asked to bring one or more non-perishable food items. The Optimist Club members will collect these items and make them available to a local food bank in order to help those around us who are in need.

It’s so important that donors give regularly so blood products of all types are available whenever and wherever they’re needed. Your donation can help ensure a sufficient supply for patients close to home or in other areas. Please make your plans to help at this important event.

Most healthy people age 17 and older or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood. A single pint of blood can be safely donated every 56 days, and this important opportunity will allow the citizens in and around the Senoia area to once again rise to the need.

The Senoia Area blood drive is held at the Senoia United Methodist Church on a quarterly basis. If you would like to learn how you can help in this or another worthwhile project sponsored by the Senoia Optimist Club, please email the club at 21267@optimistmail.org or contact Club President Pat Veneziani at 706-329-2100.
