Update: July 31, 7:45 p.m.- The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on July 31 arrested 22-year-old Randen Morris, of Atlanta, charging him with 31 felony counts of entering auto.

Sheriff Barry Babb said investigators used surveillance footage and other evidence collected to identify Morris and connect these incidents.

Members of the U.S. Marshals South Eastern Regional Fugitive Task Force located Morris in the Bankhead neighborhood of Atlanta and took him into custody, Babb said,

“This quick arrest would have not occurred without our partnership with the U.S. Marshals Office and their continued hard work for us all in the metro area,” said Babb.

Original story: The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for a man who is believed to be responsible for the break-ins of 37 vehicles in two north Fayette County subdivisions in late July.

The crimes happened July 20 and again on July 22-23, said Babb.

Babb said approximately 22 vehicles were entered on July 20 while parked at residences in the Shenandoah Estates subdivision off Old Ga. Highway 138.

“The majority of the vehicles appear to have been unlocked and small items of value were removed,” Babb said. “The items included loose change, shoes, ammunition and electronics.”

The man during July 22-23 entered another 15 vehicles in the Newton Plantation subdivision off Ga. Highway 314, Babb said, adding that some of the vehicles were unlocked while others had been secured. The suspect used a tool to gain entry to the vehicles that were locked, said Babb.

The man’s method of operation in the second series of entries was the same as before, Babb noted.

In total, investigators have 33 warrants in their possession, said Babb.

Babb reminded residents to lock their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight.

Anyone who recognizes the male in the photo is asked to contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at 770-461-6353.
