Heritage Christian Church recently hosted a teacher appreciation luncheon for the faculty of Inman Elementary School. The cookout, held at the outdoor pavilion by Lake Heritage, was hosted to support the teachers for the upcoming school year. Several needed supplies which the congregation donated were presented to the teachers.

“Our involvement with Inman stems from a relationship that has been built through the backpack buddy ministry,” said to Mike Conaway, discipleship pastor.

According to Conaway, the backpack buddy ministry provides children of Inman with food for the weekend. Each week, a participating child receives a backpack filled with nutritious food. The backpacks are then filled with nonperishable items that provide two breakfasts, lunches and dinners for the children.

Since it began in March 2013, the backpack program has grown to over 60 children and, Conaway adds, the expectations are for it to be even bigger this school year. Some of the students receive items on a weekly basis through the backpack program.

“We have built a strong relationship with Inman through our Community Engagement Ministry,” said Conaway. “ We are available to assist the school with any volunteer needs they may have.”
