The Greater Fayette Republican Women’s Club holds its meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Fayette County Republican Party Event Center, 174 Glynn Street North in Fayetteville. This ever popular program will focus on the latest in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. Learn about the wonderful programs and amenities available at Thomas F. Chapman Family Cancer Wellness and enjoy a cooking demonstration by Lea Bowen, sous chef, Taste and Savor. Presenters will be Trevor M. Today is the third Market Day event of 2014, at the Lane Brown Gazebo in Downtown Fayetteville. Fayetteville Main Street welcomes everyone to attend this open air market featuring a variety of vendors showcasing their homemade or homegrown products. The market is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p. m.

A juvenile justice forum for all middle and high school students is today at the Fayette Public Library from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Young females specifically will benefit from the presentation by Desiree Lee, author of “Inmate #1142980.” Lee will tell about her life challenging and changing experience as an honor high school graduate with two scholarships to attend college, and within weeks after graduation, she winds up on the wrong side of the law. Fayette County Sheriff, school officials and other law enforcement officials are invited to participate in the forum. Also, all middle and high school principals, teachers and counselors are invited.

Fairburn’s Southside Theatre Guild’s upcoming musical production of “110 Degrees in the Shade” is today. The show is a sizzling musical based on N. Richard Nash’s book and play, “The Rainmaker.” The musical centers around Lizzie, a spinster woman, who lives in her family’s ranch, in a hot and drought-stricken American Southwest town. The plot centers on her search for love and her choice between two suitors: Starbuck, a charismatic con man posing as a rainmaker who can bring rainfall to the drought-stricken, and Sheriff File, the town’s most eligible bachelor. Living Better with Parkinson’s provides support for individuals, family members and caregivers affected by Parkinson’s disease. Whether you have lived with Parkinson’s for years, were recently diagnosed or know a loved one affected by the disease, you will learn valuable information regarding diagnosis, treatment, medication, exercise, diet, new research and daily life. To help the community get active and have better access to physicians, Piedmont Fayette Hospital is piloting a health and group fitness program called Walk with a Doc. The time-honored tradition of afternoon tea will be enjoyed at 2 p.m.. at the lovely, historic Pearman home at 291 Pylant Street in Senoia for “Summer Tea on the Porch.” Scones and cream. The South Metro Rose Society meets today at 6:30 p.m. at the Heritage Bank at 440 N. Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. All rose growers from novice to expert are invited to attend free of charge. This month’s program features Master Rosarian, horticulture judge, and past president, Walt Reed speaking on the “Safe Use of Chemicals on Roses”. This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to identify diseases and insects that love roses and the best way to eliminate them.
