Theo Cooley Scott is now in Heaven with his Lord and Savior. He is safe in the arms of Jesus having left his earthly body on Monday, August 13, 2012. He fought bravely for 4 months against a killer disease known to us as Cancer and won the battle. Now his body is whole again, clean, healthy and pain free. We are the ones who lost. Theo was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-granddaddy. He was also a loving brother and loyal friend to many. May we all try to follow his example by continuing to tell the story of Jesus’ great love for us and by being a loyal, trustworthy friend to all we meet along the way of life.

Theo was born in Atlanta, Ga. on March 29, 1937 to Theodore Scott and Mable Ellen Shorter Cooley. He was preceded in death by both parents. Theo grew up in East Point, Ga. He attended Colonial Hills Elementary, Central Park Elementary and graduated from Russell High School in 1955. In 1955, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean Conflict as a U.S. Navy pilot. Later he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Voice performance from Mercer University (Macon). Several years later he enrolled at New Orleans Seminary-Atlanta Branch. He served as Minister of Music at Conley Road Baptist Church in East Point. He served also at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Morrow, Ga. as Associate Pastor and Minister of Music. He also served at First Baptist Macon and several other S. Georgia churches. As he grew older he became interested in counseling and earned a degree through Luther Rice Correspondence School.

Theo was a voracious reader and avid student. His desire for learning was exceeded only by his desire to serve others in the name of Jesus. Over the years he found it necessary to work at other jobs to support a growing family. He served as a police officer in Atlanta and was at one time a member of the SWAT team. He had a prison ministry and preached at several nursing homes including La Fayette in Fayetteville and Southland in Peachtree City where he would preach and sing for them. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. For many years he was an active member at Liberty Baptist Church in N. Fayette County. He served there as Senior Adult Minister, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.

In 2003, Theo married Beverly Huff Pruett. They moved from Clayton County to Peachtree City in Fayette County. He and Beverly have been very active members at Dogwood Baptist Church. They have been in a wonderful small group. Theo was an assessment counselor at Real Life Center until he could no longer stand or drive. He served for 6 years on the Peachtree City Board of Commissioners. He has been an active member of AA for 25 years where he actively served as a sponsor to many AA members. Until last Friday, he was actively involved with a men’s program called Iron Men at the church. †He would encourage men at Dogwood or living in our community to visit this group. They meet every Friday @ 6 a.m. His schedule was a busy one but he and Beverly loved to go on cruises.

He leaves behind, to cherish his memory his wife of 9 years, Beverly Huff Pruett-Scott; Children Theo Kenneth Scott (Julia), Stacy Scott, Sherry Lee Scott Waller, Karen Rouse Waddell (Ray), Kevin Rouse (Brenda), Melanie Pruett Flora (Will), Robin Pruett Odom (Rev.
