Civil Air Patrol Cadet Adam Pendleton (15) of Brooks became the youngest cadet commander of the Peachtree City Squadron of Civil Air Patrol upon accepting the squadron colors from outgoing cadet commander Cadet Capt Dan Schulz in a ceremony held Aug. 11 under the command of squadron commander Maj. Randy Stastny and in front of the assembled unit’s members in the parking lot of Peachtree City United Methodist Church.

The young cadet leader became interested in CAP when his older brother, Aaron — who himself rose to cadet commander — joined the cadets.

Following the ceremony, Cadet Capt Adam Pendleton remarked, “I’ve learned how to become a leader and that you’re never done working on your leadership skills; this program is invaluable.” He added that in years to come he plans on joining the U.S. Air Force.

The CAP cadet program is open to all interested young people between the ages 12 to 18. The cadet program is only one of CAP’s missions. The Civil Air Patrol is the official civilian Auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and as such has over 60,000 volunteers serving nationwide. CAP is perhaps best known for its emergency services and search and rescue operations, fielding teams on the ground as well as in the air.
