Jacquelyn (Jackie) Hugo, a long time resident of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away August 19, 2014 in Fayetteville, Ga.

Jackie was a petite beauty, known for her sense of style and vivacious personality. Her classmates deemed her “most popular” and named her “queen.”

Having come from a long line of nurturers, she had a warm, deep love of family and more friends than she could count. Loving people was effortless on her part. It was inbred. She didn’t have to learn it. She was born with it. Although, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the light of her life, many people, whose lives she touched, thought of her as their second mother. Some called her Mama Jackie.

Jackie was pre-deceased by her husband George Hugo, her parents Thelma and Leang Elian, and her brother Charles. Survivors include daughter Maureen Ramsay Hughes and son Michael Hugo; grandchildren Tommy (Sarah) Hughes and Jackie (Steve) Sarantis; great-grandchildren Sophie, Jacquelyn, Garett, Basia, Alex and Jon; nephews and nieces.

Jackie was a homemaker. Through the years she taught Sunday school, she was a crisis-line volunteer, and a member of her hometown Woman’s Club. She took an active part in her husband’s home-building career.

Being demonstrative about her feelings was a gift she cherished. A warm hug and saying “I love you” came easily. Jackie was wealthy in relationships. They were her primary focus and concern in this lifetime. She loved, cared for, counseled, nurtured, encouraged and prayed for those in her life.

Jackie’s recent illness somewhat clouded her true nature. Like the song, “She can see clearly now,” as can we.

Jackie, known as MeMe to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, left us a wonderful legacy of modeling the words of The Master – “Love one another” and “love thy neighbor as thyself.”

Funeral service and interment of ashes will be in Jacksonville, Fla. at a later date.
