PTC’s $30 million budget passes by a unanimous count

After a lengthy discussion on budget revisions initiated by Councilman Eric Imker on Aug. 21, the Peachtree City Council on Sept. 4 unanimously adopted the revised $30.7 million general fund budget with little discussion.

City Manager Jim Pennington prior to the vote and a brief presentation by Finance Director Paul Salvatore said staff had spent significant time making sure all the details presented on Aug. 21 were worked out.

Among the changes aimed at decreasing expenditures was a 1 percent reduction in employee salary increases and the elimination of a 10-person landscaping crew and associated equipment totaling $635,698 and, instead, funding $250,000 for a mowing contract. T

he city will retain six new landscaping employees hired in FY 2014. A sampling of other changes included decreasing funding for bridge infrastructure work by $50,000 and decreasing funding for street resurfacing. City staff had originally proposed a general fund budget totaling approximately $32 million.

The budget revision stemmed from an Aug. 21 vote to keep the millage at the current rate and calls by Imker to cut the budget and forego a millage increase. A majority of the council agreed, voting to keep the tax rate at 6.756 mills for FY 2015.
