Historic Sandy Creek Baptist Church will celebrate Homecoming on Sunday, Sept. 21. The community is invited.

The worship service will begin at 11 a.m. with special music by The Jonathans, followed by a covered dish meal.

Sandy Creek Baptist was established in 1882 on two acres of land purchased for “the sum of $1 and good will” from Archibald T. MacIntyre.

Very early records of the church do not exist but it is known that the first building burned and another was built in its place.

In 1908, the cemetery land behind the church was purchased from Sister Amanda J, Boggs. A new building was built and Sunday school rooms added.

Much is written about the church and community in The History of Fayette County, Georgia, 1821-1971, compiled and edited by Carolyn Cary and published by the Fayette County Historical Society. The church is at 1082 Sandy Creek Road, Fayetteville. For more info call 770-964-9691.
