PetSmart Charities is presenting its National Adoption weekend September 13 and 14 and the Fayette Humane Society (FHS) will be participating at the Peachtree City PetSmart store.  Adoption hours are being extended: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Fayetteville Main Street is proud to present another fall edition of the annual Taste of Fayette.The event is around the Lane Brown Gazebo on the downtown Fayetteville square. The taste features local restaurants selling samples of their finest offerings. “Tastes” range from .50 to $3 each, offering snack-sized bites to sample or even a full lunch plate. Some of the participating vendors this year include The Olde Courthouse Tavern, Broadway Diner, City Café & Bakery, Dickey’s Barbeque, Fork in the Road Café, Twisted Taco, TCBY,  Khalifa (Indian), Royal Stix Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi, Star of  India  and many more.   Awards will be given for the “Finest Taste”, “Finest Treat” and “Most Amazing Booth” The Taste of Fayette  runs from noon until 5 p.m. The event is hosted by Fayetteville Main Street. The Peachtree City Optimist Club will hold its 23rd annual “Friend of Youth” Golf Tournament today at Whitewater Creek Country Club. A Fort Lauderdale, Four-Man Team start is set for a 1 p.m. tee-off.  Registration/check in begins at 11 a.m. with lunch at noon.  Registration is $75 per person or $300 per team, individuals will be grouped with a team.  A registration donation includes cart, green fees, range balls and lunch by Partner’s Pizza Tyrone/Fayetteville. Sandy Creek High School’s Choral Department is pleased to present the 2014 Talent Show tonight at  7 p.m. at the new Handley Park Pavilion in Tyrone, during this year’s Founders Day celebration. Students will compete for prizes in several categories, including vocal solo, vocal duet, band/instrumental performance, dance, and others. First-place winners in each category will be offered the opportunity to perform onstage Sept. 19, during the Tyrone Founders Day festivities.

Based on popular demand, Piedmont Fayette Hospital’s Walk With a Doc program, which began in the spring, returns to Drake Field and will continue monthly through November. All members of the community are invited to join us to walk and talk with a Piedmont doctor. The Sandy Creek Marching Patriot Band will host the 2014 Annual Fayette County Marching Band Exhibition  at the Battlefield at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone.  Preview five fabulous half-time shows all in one location as the Fayette County High School marching bands kick off their competition season.Gates open at 5 p.m. A combined band from Fayette County middle school band students will start the event with the national anthem at 6 p.m.
Fayette County High will lead off the performances followed by McIntosh High, Starr’s Mill High, Whitewater High and host Sandy Creek High will wrap up the event.

A community leaders’ breakfast is today. The program starts at 7:15 a.m. with a sign in and breakfast. The meeting /program starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. at Grace Evangelical Church with a Fayette Alcohol Prevention Project Update
The event is hosted by  AVPRIDE & Fayette FACTOR. Is there a child with special needs in your life. Southside Support is presenting Southside Symposium, a day-long conference. Join us to receive a message of hope, learn how their brain functions, and discover how small changes in their everyday diet can improve their health.
Karen Kain will open with an inspiring talk about hope for parents and caregivers of special needs children. The keynote is Dr. Robert Melillo, PhD, who will speak about Functional Disconnection – how each half of the brain works to influence learning, behaviors, and general health. And local pediatrician, Dr. Jill Dickerson, will offer advice about food, nutrition, and biomedical interventions that can enhance brain and body health. The panel at the end of the day will feature all three speakers and your questions.
The conference is from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. It will take place at Grace Evangelical Church, 164 Flat Creek Trail in Fayetteville. It will feature speakers, networking, breakfast and lunch.

Everyone is invited to a Friday Fun Night  with a free outdoor movie showing of “Heaven Is For Real” at the Newnan Family Worship Center located at the corner of 300 Jefferson St. and Sprayberry Road.
Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and arrive
by 7:30 p.m. for ample parking  Movie starts at dusk (approximately 8 p.m.) Popcorn, snow cones and refreshments will be offered.

The 15th Annual Southern Crescent Walk To End Alzheimer’s  is today in the parking lot of the Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City.  Participants include residents from seven counties on Atlanta’s south side: Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Meriwether, South Fulton and Spalding.  Signup begins at 8 a.m.; walk begins at 9:30 a.m.  This is a family affair with entertainment and lunch provided.  Donations are appreciated.  For additional information visit:  act.alz.org/southerncrescent.
