Chiefs and Bobcats join Patriots as county's 3-0 teams
Sandy Creek improved to 3-0 on Thursday night and the question was whether or not McIntosh and Our Lady of Mercy were going to join them as the other undefeated teams from the county.
The answer seemed to come early.
McIntosh jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter of their game against Ola when Ian Timmins recovered a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown. In the third quarter, quarterback Andrew Johnson connected with Duke Kinnamon on an eight yard touchdown pass. Ola cut into the lead with a big touchdown pass but a blocked punt kept the score 14-6 in favor of McIntosh. The Chiefs hung on for the win and start 3-0 for the first time since before this reporter started covering sports (which was 1998). The Chiefs play at Drew next week.
Our Lady of Mercy tied Mt. Pisgah at 7-7 after a touchdown run from Chauncey Laboo. The Bobcats then scored 35 unanswered points, including one more from Laboo and one from Rashard Fant among others, and cruised to their third win of the 2012 season. The final score was 42-14. The Bobcats will play at Athens Academy next Friday.
In Fayetteville, the Fayette County Tigers (0-2) hosted Whitewater (1-1) and had no answer for Kendall Conley. Conley rushed for three touchdowns and Christian Wafford added one more as Whitewater led Fayette County in the third quarter. Fayette County's Jason Williams cut the lead to 35-7 with a two yard touchdown run late but Ian McIntyre's three yard touchdown run made it 41-7. Williams added one more touchdown to make the score 41-14. Whitewater is at Union Grove next week, while Fayette County has a bye week.
Starr's Mill was on the road playing at West Forsyth, ranked fourth in Class AAAAAA, and found themselves down 49-0 at the half. The Panthers lost 63-14. Freshman Dion Munerlyn had both touchdowns for Starr's Mill. The Panthers (1-2) play Mt. Zion, Jonesboro at Twelve Oaks Stadium next Friday.
Landmark Christian took on Mt. Paran Christian and the War Eagles won 28-10. Landmark is off next week.
