Auto fanatics in particular will want to see the goings-on at Shakerag Knoll Tuesday evening as the city hosts the “Finish Line Frenzy” event for the Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally competition.

Teams are expected to cross the finish line between 5:30 and 7 p.m., and the public is invited to meet the competitors and get an up-close look at their unique vehicles, which include exotic sportscars, a replica “Time Car” from the movie “Back to the Future” and the “Bumblebee” car from the movie “Transformers”.

The Fireball Run, which is being filmed for a feature-length movie and also for online live streaming, is a mix of racing and reality show, as participants must solve clues and complete missions along the way. Each team also is charged with handing out flyers to raise awareness for specific missing children in the hopes of reuniting them with their families.

The Finish Line Frenzy event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available, benefitting Boy Scout Troop 175, and new toys associated with speed will also be collected by Speedway Children’s Charity.

This year the Adventurally features notable drivers such as NASCAR legend Geoff Bodine, Space Shuttle Astronaut Winston Scott, as well as Actor Kevyn Major Howard.

If you can’t make it to the Finish Line Frenzy Tuesday, there’s still a chance to take part, as the Fireball Run competitors will depart in a Green Flag ceremony Wednesday at 8 a.m. from The Avenue shopping center. State Rep. Matt Ramsey and other local leaders will signal the rally’s departure to Knoxville, Tenn. when the green flag waves at 9 a.m.

This year’s Fireball run got underway Friday on Florida’s Space Coast, and it will end Oct. 1 in the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The action will also be aired live streaming at www.fireballrun.com/LIVE.

All rally team vehicles will be equipped with GPS-tracking devices provided by RealTrack GPS; allowing fans to follow the rally and their favorite teams online as the numbered icons travel across real-time satellite photos. Fans can also engage in discussions with teams and each other via “live chat” on Fireball Run.com/LIVE.

Cars are also decaled with QR codes, short for Quick Response. These square matrix codes can be scanned by smart phones to launch digital content; text and photos to websites and videos. Fans who participate in “Follow the Fireball” Scan, Track and Win! or Register, Track and Win! will be eligible for prizes, including a spot in next year’s rally.
