It was nearly two years ago that Richard Newbern was hired as Tyrone’s Town Manager. Things changed on Nov. 1 when his contract was not renewed. Police Chief Brandon Perkins was appointed to serve in that capacity until the position is filled.

Mayor Don Rehwaldt said the Town Council at an Oct. 17 called meeting voted 4-0 not to renew Newbern’s contract. Rehwaldt in commenting on the council’s action said the evolving priorities in Tyrone led to the decision not to renew the contract.

Newbern was hired nearly two years ago on a two-year contract.

Meantime, Perkins will serve as interim town manager until someone is hired to fill the position.

Perkins has served as Tyrone Police Chief for the past four years.

“It’s an honor to be thought of by the council,” Perkins said. “The town manager is the most important position in the town so it’s an honor to fill that role for while.”
