Rising Starr Middle School (RSMS) faculty challenged Bennett’s Mill Middle School (BMMS) faculty to a volleyball game to help raised funds to help cancer patients at the Piedmont Fayette Cancer Wellness Center.

The event generated over $440 for the Cancer Wellness Center.

In early October, RSMS Principal Nancy Blair issued a friendly challenge to a game of volleyball to all other middle schools in the county. BMMS Principal Jason Byars accepted.

Rising Starr won the game, beating Bennett’s Mill in two out of three games.

The day before the game, Rising Starr raised some additional proceeds with a jeans day for teachers and a hat day for students.

All totaled, a check for more than $830 was presented to the Piedmont Fayette Cancer Wellness Center in the name of the two schools.

“It was a great team-building endeavor for our faculty. About 60 percent of them participated either as players on the team, the cheer squad or as spectators cheering us on,” says Rising Starr principal Nancy Blair. “We had a great time playing against the Bennett’s Mill faculty, and now we are ready for more challengers.”
