A Fayette County firefighter was arrested Oct. 27 for stealing Schedule 2 drugs from a resident’s home. He was subsequently fired from his position with Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services.

Sidney W. White, Jr., 28, of Fayetteville, was charged Oct. 27 with misdemeanor theft by taking and felony possession of a Schedule 2 drug, according to Sheriff Barry Babb.

Babb said the arrest stemmed from an incident on Oct. 22 when a Fayette County resident reported the theft of medication from her home in the Shiloh Mobile Home Community.

“According to the initial incident report, a male using the name ‘Chris’ approached the resident stating he was a Fayette County firefighter and wanted to check on her,” Babb said. “The male advised he responded to the home in the past for a medical call. The male asked to use the restroom prior to leaving. The resident immediately noticed a bottle of prescription medication was missing when the male left the home and reported the incident to the sheriff’s office.”

Babb said a subsequent investigation identified White. The stolen prescription bottle and contents were located, he said.

Fayette County Administrator Steve Rapson said White’s employment was terminated after he admitted to the theft. Rapson said White was also employed by another emergency services provider.
