Ernest Lane Brown died on Nov. 11, 2011 surrounded by his loving family, from complications of cancer.

Lane was born in Atlanta, Ga. on September 28, 1938 to Benjamin Lane and Frances Brown. He attended Southwest High School and went onto UGA and the Atlanta Law School.

Lane was a commercial real estate broker, who was in business in the Atlanta area for over 40 years. He absolutely loved his work. When a developer friend learned of his passing, he said, “we have lost a real warrior in the business.”

Lane was a people person who never met a stranger. He was honest and loyal and a good friend to many. He was a mentor who enjoyed helping up and coming real estate people learn the ropes. Lane had a great sense of humor, and he loved life. He loved his Lord, his family, golf, the Atlanta Falcons and the Braves, the Dawgs, country music and his Labradors Daisy and Cody.

He was active in his community for many years. He served on several boards. He was a past president of the South Fulton Chamber of Commerce and the South Fulton Rotary Club. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow and later a member of the Fayetteville Rotary Club. He was a member of the Fayetteville Businessman Association, the Downtown Development Authority, and currently he was the Chairman of the Board of Fayetteville Main Street, which was his passion.

Lane is survived by his best friend and wife Sheila; daughter Sandee & Ric Clark, daughter Shannon & Brian Flemming and son Lane Brown, Jr; grandchildren Austin, Savannah, Zachary, and Kayla; his sister Shirley and Gene Thomas and nieces and nephews Debbie, Tracy, Nic, and Jessica.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Peachtree City United Methodist Church (225 Robinson Road). Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery. The family received friends Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lane’s memory to Senior Services, Fayette Samaritans, the Fayette County Humane Society or The Gideons International.
