Art students at J.C. Booth Middle made history by becoming the first champions of the inaugural Scarecrow Competition hosted by the Fayette County Public Arts Committee.

Scarecrows were placed on display in October next to the public plaza on the grounds of the Fayette County Administration Building in downtown Fayetteville. Booth’s entry, “Art is a Portal to a New World,” showcased a scarecrow emerging from a portal in the ground.

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners recognized the first place finish with an official certificate and a $150 check for the school’s art department.
Art teacher Victoria Perez says the money will be used to purchase art supplies.
