The Peachtree City Police Department’s annual “Light Up the Night” toy drive is up and running to help local families in need have a happy holiday.

It will be easy to spot the toy drive at the city’s Walmart and Kmart stores, as there will be a large amount of emergency lighting and vehicles on hand to draw attention to the drive.

Police officers and green-shirted volunteers from the Community Emergency Response Team will be on hand to collect new, unwrapped gifts for children ages 2-17. In lieu of gifts, the toy drive will also accept monetary donations at either the drop-off points or at the police department headquarters.

Last year more than 70 children were helped by the Light Up the Night toy drive. This year the department wants to make it even bigger, and they need the community’s help.

The toy drive will be up and running at both the Walmart and Kmart in Peachtree City from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5. The drive will also be at the Walmart on Thursday, Dec. 12 and at Kmart Dec. 13.

To submit donations for the toy drive, contact police Capt. Stan Pye at 770-486-8866, ext. 3146.
