Mr. Acie Edward Sonny Hodge, of Brooks, Ga., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 at the age of 64.
Sonny was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving his country through two tours of duty in Vietnam. During that time he was severely wounded and the recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who was a good hearted man, a great provider and was always willing to help others. Sonny loved children and their home was always open to neighborhood kids, who considered him to be the “Cool Dad.” He was a lover of animals but they didn’t compare to the special bond between he and his grandchildren, who he thought were “the best thing since sunshine.”
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Fay Hodge; daughter Cynthia Howell and her husband Gary, of Brooks; grandson Joshua Heard of Atlanta; granddaughter Alaina Perkins and her husband Daniel, of Lake City, Shannon Howell of Tulsa, Okla., Rebecca Howell of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; great-granddaughter Leigh-Anne Pollard; great-grandson Dakota Clark; father Marvin Mund; many nieces, nephews and his best four legged friend “Handy.”
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
Interment will follow in Camp Memorial Park with full military honors. The family received friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
