A free demonstration of Peachtree City’s new pickleball program is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. at the Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center.

“[This event] will allow participants to get hands-on experience and learn just how great this game is for all ages,” a pickleball spokesperson said.

Members of the PTC Pickleball Club will provide the equipment and their expertise to get attendees quickly into the swing of the game.

The game itself is quite simple. Players use paddles and a whiffle ball on badminton-size courts with a slightly lowered tennis net.

“It’s like playing ping-pong, but you get to walk on the table,” said Peachtree City’s recreation and special event administrator, Cajen Rhodes.

Pickleball has taken off in popularity, especially for those who desire a less physically demanding sport than tennis or racquetball.

The game is easy on the joints and may improve hand-eye coordination, balance and agility.

After an initial introduction, most new players catch on within about 20 minutes.
