City Council Meeting – Thursday, June 2
The Mayor and Council will meet on Thursday, June 2, 7:00 p.m., at City Hall. The public is welcome. The agenda includes ordinance amendments related to the City’s records management program, amendments to the policy for funding for non-profit organizations, and a reclassification of the Fire Marshal position. Traffic Alert – One Lane of Hwy 54 Closed June 2
One lane of Hwy 54 by City Hall will be closed at about 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, between Willowbend Rd/Northlake Dr and Willowbend Rd/Flat Creek for inspection of the Hwy 54 multi-use bridge. The lane should be reopened by noon.
4th of July Parade Registration begins June 1
Peachtree City residents and businesses wanting to have an entry in the annual July 4th Parade may begin registering on Wednesday, June 1. Fayette County residents and business registration begins Wednesday, June 8. The parade and fireworks will be held on Monday, July 4.
Planning Commission Considers Several Projects on June 13
City Staff is currently reviewing plans for several new developments and each has been tentatively scheduled for review at the June 13 Planning Commission meeting. Conceptual site plans have been submitted for the Hearthside at Peachtree City (NorSouth) senior apartment community on Newgate Road and for an expansion of the Southside Church campus on Robinson Road. Landscape plans have been submitted for the Walgreen’s at the Hwy 54/ Peachtree Parkway intersection as well as the Martial Arts America building in Lexington Circle. Staff is also reviewing a Special Use Permit for Phase 2 of the McIntosh Village retail development on Hwy 54 West. PTC Library’s Vacation Reading Program Starts Today!
Vacation Reading Program registration begins on Tuesday, May 31, for “One World, Many Stories.” Parents must register their children in person at the Peachtree City Library. For those wishing to participate in the adult summer reading program, “Novel Destinations,” registration will be online only at www.peachtree-city.org/library.
Golf Cart Decal Replacement Begins June 1
Every five years, Peachtree City issues new decals for golf carts. This year, 2011, is one of those years. Peachtree City expects delivery of the new white decals on June 1. All carts using Peachtree City paths (except for those carts owned by Tyrone residents and registered in Tyrone) must replace decals by October 1, 2011. On June 1, residents will be able to order decals online, mail in their registration and payment ($12), or obtain decals at City Hall. The City will be sending out notices to residents over the next five months reminding residents of the need to replace the yellow decals to stagger registration periods so our 10,000 golf cart owners will not all be trying to register at the same time. Due to the incredible efficiency of our mailing service and the Postal Service, part of Peachtree City has already received their renewal letter and has begun contacting City Hall – we apologize for the delay, but will have the decals available and the online registration up and running June 1. All registrants will also receive a complimentary copy of the new street and path map with their $12 decal purchase.
Peachtree City One of the Best of the Road
Thanks to online voters, Peachtree City ranked third in the Rand McNally / USA Today “Best of the Road” competition for “Most Patriotic” town. One hundred nine people voted (103 for “Most Patriotic” and 6 for “Most Beautiful.” We ranked behind Emporia, Kansas (168 votes), and Clarksville, Tennessee (668 votes), and beat Williamsburg, Virginia (94 votes). This summer, five teams of travelers will participate in the “Best of the Road” Rally, leaving New York City on June 23, visiting each of the small town finalists. Each team will cover one of the five categories, leaving no stone unturned as they work to determine which small town is the best of their category. When the rally teams arrive in Los Angeles, CA, on July 15, they will announce which towns are really the best small towns in America.
DOT Road Work – Hwy 54 East Intersections
Residents may have noticed the turn lane islands at Hwy 54 and Peachtree Parkway have been dug up. The Georgia Department of Transportation is installing raised concrete islands in the existing hatched islands at several Hwy 54 East intersections that will include wheelchair ramps for easy accessibility and push button controls to allow pedestrians to interrupt the sequence of the traffic signal to allow for safe pedestrian crossing.
Outdoor Water Use Restrictions
Fayette County falls under the 2010 Georgia Water Stewardship Act, which now allows daily outdoor watering of plants between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. Outdoor water use for any other purposes (power washing or washing cars) is still restricted to the current odd/even watering schedule. Odd-numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Even-numbered and unnumbered addresses are allowed to water on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

Project Updates:
Library Lower Level Entrance CLOSED for Repairs – the lower level entrance to the PTC Library remains closed due to cracks in the masonry. The area has been barricaded for safety reasons until repairs are completed. Please use the main entrance to the Library upstairs until further notice.
Rite Aid /Whitlock Ellis Entrance from Peachtree Parkway will have intermittent CLOSURES during construction of the Walgreens at Highway 54 and Peachtree Parkway. Access from Highway 54 will remain open. Path access via the Walgreens site remains closed.
