Declining higher speeds, F’ville sticks with 35 mph limit

The idea to increase the speed limit on two Fayetteville streets came to a dead stop at the Jan. 17 meeting of the Fayetteville City Council.

The council reviewed the idea of raising the speed limit on South Jeff Davis Drive and Beauregard Boulevard/Redwine Road from the current 35 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour. The speed limit was reduced to 35 miles per hour in October 2011 and the police department was later directed to conduct a speed limit analysis of those areas. Read More»

Burglars hit F’ville pharmacy Jan. 21

An undetermined amount of medication was stolen from a pharmacy on North Glynn Street in Fayetteville in an early morning break-in on Jan. 21.

Fayetteville Police Det. Mike Whitlow said officers received an alarm call for Jones Pharmacy on Jan. 21 at approximately 4:45 a.m. Officers responding to the scene found the window in the drive-thru area broken out, Whitlow said.

The department’s K-9 unit was called to the scene, Whitlow said, adding that the dog led officers to a nearby parking lot where a car was apparently waiting. Read More»

Family and friends present concert to help man with liver transplant

Fayetteville resident Robert Caldwell is on the list for a liver transplant. His family and friends are presenting a concert on Feburary 9 to help him after he receives the transplant.

“The goal is to raise money for his personal transplant account for the Georgia Transplant Foundation,” Caldwell’s daughter Andrea explained. “After the transplant, he will be on medication for the rest of his life to keep his body and the new organ in agreement. The Georgia Transplant Foundation will match whatever is in his personal account.” Read More»

MLK Day speaker Pryor: ‘Assumptions hold us back’

The 2013 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday observance was held Monday morning in Fayetteville. The festivities began with the annual parade and were followed by celebration activities at the Lafayette Education Center that featured keynote speaker Julius Pryor, III.

Viney Spears Kelley, 90, of Fayetteville, Ga. died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013.

A graveside service was held 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, at Kennesaw Memorial Park, Marietta.

Survivors include one daughter, Kim Stapleton of Fayetteville; two sons, James L. Kelley of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Pat Kelley of Minneola, Fla.; three grandchildren, Lisa Stapleton, Tina Kelley and Taylor Kelley; one sister, Virginia Lineback of Woodstock; one brother, Fred Spears and his wife, Sarah of Pilot Pointe, Texas.
