Hight addresses Master Gardeners at November meeting

Carol Hight, a Carrolton Master Gardener and retired school teacher, was the main speaker at the Nov. 15 Fayette County Master Gardener meeting.  Her subject was Hellebores - Winter Beauties and she drew a crowd of more than 60 members.  Hellebores, or Lenten Rose, are carefree, evergreen, low maintanance plants that should be a part of everyone’s garden.  They bloom in a variety of colors and can be enjoyed from Christmas through April which will brighten your winter landscape.

Samaritans Top Ten for December

The Fayette Samaritans is a non-profit organization dedicated to the food and clothing needs of Fayette Countians.
Their needs for December is as follows:
• Cereal
• Pasta
• Diapers size 5 & 6
• Jelly
• Dry Beans
• Canned meat
• Juice
• Toilet paper
• Canned veggies
• Canned fruit

Their clothing needs include men and boys jeans.

Deputy dragged, thrown from vehicle after traffic stop; suspect shot

An incident during a traffic stop on County Line Road Monday night left a Fayette County Sheriff’s deputy injured after being dragged and thrown from the vehicle when the passenger attempted to flee the scene. The deputy’s injury was not life-threatening. A suspect was shot and wounded by the deputy, police said. Read More»

PTC Planners postpone vote on Walgreens architecture

REVISED for print edition — Saying they needed better visuals before making a final decision, the Peachtree City Planning Commission Monday night postponed a vote on the proposed architecture for the Walgreens pharmacy that will replace the existing Ruby Tuesday restaurant at the intersection of Ga. Highway 54 and Peachtree Parkway.

Commissioners suggested that Walgreens bring back visuals that blend photographs of the existing site with a representation of the actual size of the building and how it would fit onto the site. Read More»

Rosemary Gilmore Beebe, 66, of Fayetteville

Rosemary Gilmore Beebe, 66, of Fayetteville, died November 29, 2010, after an extended illness.

Born on February 13, 1944 in Clarksville, Tenn., she was the only child of Henry and Evie Morrison Gilmore. It was in Clarksville that Rosemary, in 1964, met Ken, a career soldier stationed at nearby Fort Campbell, Kentucky. A year after his return from Vietnam they were married and began a series of assignments to various posts. Read More»

PTC staff says gas cart ban may be tough to enforce

Ban to be considered at Thursday PTC council meeting

A proposal to ban nearly all gas-powered golf carts in 10 years, and halt the registration of newly-purchased gas carts sometime next year, will be considered Thursday night by the Peachtree City Council.

The latest version of the ban would not be enforced on disabled drivers who have a valid disabled parking permit; also, golf cart dealers who rent gas golf carts would be allowed to get new decals over the next 10 years as they replace their rental fleet. Read More»
