James L. Friday, Sr., 73, of Peachtree City

James "Jim" L. Friday, Sr., 73, of Peachtree City, passed away on May 14, 2012.

He was born in Birmingham, Ala., in 1939, graduated from Lee High School in Jacksonville, Fla. in 1957. He then entered the U.S. Navy in 1957, serving aboard submarines until 1966.

He married Marion Forehand in 1957 and was hired as a pilot by Eastern Airlines in 1966. Jim founded Mid-Georgia Courier, Inc. in 1982 and was one of the founders of The Fayette Youth Protection Home in 1988. He was a member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. Read More»

Relay For Life is a celebration for cancer survivors and their caregivers.  This year’s Relay For Life will be  held on Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19 at Atlanta Regional Airport-Falcon Field in Peachtree City. Each year cancer survivors are chosen as Honarary Chairpersons and Ambassadors.

“We are so excited to have some wonderful survivors representing Relay this year” said Relay Co-Chairperson Marji Clark.

Fayette Library honors Dr. Sams

The Reading Room, recently added onto the Fayette County Public Library, was the scene of the many patients, friends, and relatives honoring the venerable “Dr. Sambo,” otherwise known to the world as Dr. Ferrol Sams, Jr. of Fayetteville, medical doctor and author.

The room was officially named in his honor and he was in his usual crackling good spirits, for a man who will be 90 years old Sept. 26. Read More»

Tyrone’s Hopewell UMC plans Chick N-Que, yard sale this Saturday

Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone will hold its annual Chick-N-Que on Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Hopewell UMC Children and Youth Ministry will sponsor a yard sale during the Chick-N-Que. Spaces are available to the community for $40 each.

The barbecued chicken meal costs $7.50 per person and all proceeds go toward mission projects.

There will also be a bake sale, sponsored by the Recycled Kids.

FPC will send team to Fayette’s Relay for Life this weekend

Fayette Presbyterian Church’s team of members will participate in this year’s Relay for Life at Falcon Field in Peachtree City.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. Friday evening, May 18, and will continue through Saturday morning, May 19.

The Relay starts with a Survivors Lap at 7 p.m. This is an inspirational time when survivors are invited to circle the track together and help everyone celebrate the victories they have achieved over cancer. Read More»

Heritage will again host Winshape Camp for kids ‘of all backgrounds’

Registration is now open for Winshape Camps for Communities, which will be hosted by Heritage Christian Church, July 9-13. The day camp is open to all students who have completed first through sixth grade. Camp runs from 7:45 a.m.- 5 p.m. Cost is $184 for a full week of camp. A deposit of $50 is due upon registration. Scholarships are available.

Fayette Presbyterian’s VBS starts June 4

Fayette Presbyterian Church (FPC) will provide its annual VBS program with this year’s theme entitled, “Operation Overboard – Dare To Go Deep With God!”

The event will be held Monday through Friday, June 4 through 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at the church.

Daily VBS will consist of interactive bible stories, music, art, games and snacks and is open to rising K through fifth grade.

Heritage Christian’s VBS starts June 25

Heritage Christian Church in Fayetteville invites children to “Sky: Everything is Possible with God” Vacation Bible School, Monday, June 25-Friday, June 29 from 8:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. VBS is open to kids who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade.

VBS is free of charge until May 31. Beginning, June 1, VBS will be $10 per child. Registration forms are available online at www.heritagechristian.org, and at both buildings on campus.
