Sociologists are reporting they see a trend that a number of church goers are regularly attending multiple churches in the course of a week or month. Several years ago, in an email column entitled “Monday Morning Insight” (www.mmiblog.com), an article attributed to The New York Times stated that more Christians are picking and choosing among programs and ministries that satisfy their personal needs. Brooks thrift shop plans big sales for anniversary Thursday

Second Chance Thrift Shop in Brooks will celebrate its fourth birthday June 20-22 with special sales and much more.

Begun as an outreach of Brooks United Methodist Church in 2009, the shop is staffed entirely by volunteers and assists families with limited incomes. Nearly 100 percent of the profits are shared between local, national, and international missions, and the church. Read More»

Providence UMC welcomes new senior pastor

This Sunday, June 23, Providence United Methodist Church will welcome a new senior pastor, the Rev. Diane Parrish.

Parrish, a graduate of University of Florida and Candler School of Theology, came to Providence after having been senior associate pastor at Mt. Bethel UMC in Marietta since 1999.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know people in Fayette and Coweta counties and to getting started in ministry with the Providence UMC church family,” she said. Read More»

Seven high-school youth from Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church are spending this week at Berry College in Rome at AFFIRM, a leadership camp which draws participants from Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

They will choose among nine “units,” which have unique emphases and requirements. COS’s director of high school and family ministry, Jeremy Hall, is helping lead the unit called “Journeys” for 36 youth who have just completed eighth or ninth grade. All Saints plans music camp

All Saints Anglican Church in Peachtree City will conduct its sixth annual free Children’s Music Camp from July 8 through 12. The program is for children ages 5 through 11 and is scheduled from 9 a.m. until noon each day at the church, 225 S. Peachtree Parkway.

Parents and friends will be invited to the “grand finale” and graduation presentation at noon on July 12 when the children will demonstrate what they have learned. Read More»

Judy Massey authors book on dealing with sex trafficking

Dr. Judy Massey has authored a manual, “Prayer Panels — A Strategic Prayer Guide to Combat Human Sex Trafficking.”

Massey, a commissioned minister in the Charismatic Episcopal Church, also serves as the prayer coordinator for Wellspring Living, a Georgia based organization that combats sex trafficking and sexual abuse. Read More»

Heritage Christian omits VBS to host ‘Summer Nights’ in July

Heritage Christian Church in Fayetteville invites families in the community to Summer Nights on Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24, and 31. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the indoor drama begins at 7 p.m.

Each evening, families are encouraged to bring their picnic blanket and sit together for the indoor show, which will include hilarious skits, high energy music, a family game show, and interactive Bible stories.

Themes include peace, forgiveness, humility, and service. After the indoor entertainment at 7:45 p.m., families will head outdoors for family-friendly activities, snacks, and games. Read More»

John Hagen leaves Cokes Chapel UMC after 15 years

It has been said parting is such sweet sorrow. This was certainly the case when John Hagen announced his departure as one of the pastors of Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church after 15 years.
