Volunteers needed at Gracie's Closet

Gracie’s Closet, the clothing and supply resource center of Fayette Youth Protection Homes, Inc. (FYPH), needs volunteers to organize and distribute clothing and other items to children living in foster homes on the south side of metro Atlanta.  Volunteer duties include sorting clothing donations and assisting foster children when they “shop” for items in the store.  If you are interested in making a difference in the life of a child and can commit to volunteering on a weekly or monthly basis, please contact Becky Davenport at 770-461-7020.  Read More»

Students from Fayette inducted into the UGA Chapter of the Blue Key National Honor Society

Paul Trinquero, Justin Mann, David Ballard, Jillian Turner, Joshua Delaney and Andrey Henry have been inducted into the University of Georgia Chapter of the Blue Key National Honor Society. The Blue Key National Honor Society recognizes men and women of outstanding character and ability who have achieved distinction for their leadership abilities as well as recognition for scholarship and service. The University of Georgia Blue Key chapter was established in 1926, and for 84 years, membership in this organization has been considered one of the highest honors on campus. Read More»

Cattle Baron's Ball, benefit for ACS, returns Nov. 6

The 2010 Cattle Barons’ Ball plans to kick up its’ heels again this year at the Dolce Atlanta -Peachtree on Saturday, Nov. 6. This will be the eight year for the annual Western-style ball that to date has raised over a million dollars for the local office of the American Cancer Society. The office in Peachtree City serves over 1,400 newly diagnosed patients each year in the 12 county area of the Southern Crescent. Read More»

Preschool kids learn about Constitution

Mary Evelyn King, 8, of Fayetteville — Mary Evelyn was precious not only to her family and people who knew her, but also to the thousands of people she never met, whose lives she touched through sharing her story on our blog as she graciously lived a beautiful life by bringing joy to others while under the hardship of being a cancer patient. Mrs. Wanda Burgess, 74, of Senoia, died October 8, 2010.

She was born May 8, 1936 in Morgan County, Kentucky, the youngest daughter of ten children. Her love for children was exhibited by her thirty years of service as a nationally certified preschool teacher. Mr. Lawrence "Larry" K. Whalley, 77, of Peachtree City

Mr. Lawrence "Larry" K. Whalley, of Peachtree City, died October 8, 2010.

He was born in Danvers, MA on December 19, 1932. He enjoyed a career as a pilot in the United States Air Force, serving for a year in Vietnam. After retiring from the Air Force, he flew for FedEx for 20 more years. He enjoyed traveling, skiing, golfing, and spending time with his family. Read More»

Mr. Christopher Allan Renfroe, 35, of Peachtree City

Mr. Christopher Allan Renfroe, 35, of Peachtree City, passed away on October 7, 2010. Mr. Renfroe enjoyed collecting knives, baseball cards and cigars. He practiced judo, loved bodybuilding, as well as riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by his parents, Larry and Linda Renfroe, of Fayetteville ; his brother Chuck Renfroe and his wife Erin of Jefferson, TN; his sister April Renfroe of Fayetteville ; his grandmother Betty Scoggins of Newport , TN ; as well as several nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. Read More»
