Sandra Cathy Zimmermann engaged to Christopher Shane Hart

Sandra Cathy Zimmermann and Christopher Shane Hart announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of the late William and Deborah Zimmermann. She is employed at The Citizen Newspaper and Fayette Woman Magazine as an advertising sales representative.

The groom-elect is the son of Charles and Patsy Bohannon of Palmetto. He is employed by Maximum Fire Protection as an inspector.

The wedding will be on Oct.9, 2010, at Palmetto Baptist Church, Palmetto.

The couple will reside in Newnan after the wedding.

Retired Colonel and Mrs. Kevin J. Kerns of Peachtree City announce the engagement of their daughter, Lindsey Katherine Kerns, to John Babcock Cottingham, son of Dr. and Mrs. James A. Cottingham of Douglas, Georgia.

The bride-elect is a 2001 graduate of Rolla High School in Rolla, Mo. She received her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Georgia Tech in 2005, and her master’s degree in civil engineering from Georgia Tech in 2006. Wilcox birth

Cody and Kristen Wilcox of Newnan announce the birth of their son, Caelan Tyler Wilcox, born at 8:43 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2010, at Fayette Piedmont Hospital. Caelan weighed 7 lbs., 9.7 oz. and was 20.25 inches long. Grandparents are Michael and Annette Doyle of Peachtree City and Guy and Carol Wilcox of Tyrone. Great-grandparents are Mary Ann Ripple of Madison, Wis., Lorena Norred of Fayetteville, and Eileen Wilcox of Cumming.

Historical Society to meet this Sunday

The Fayette County Historical Society will meet this Sunday, Sept. 26th, at Starr’s Mill at 3 p.m.

Each September the  group meets on the grounds here, the Mill will be open for you, just be sure to bring a lawn chair.

The original mill dates back to the early 1820’s and the present mill is the third one on the site.

It was “redone” on the first floor for the movie “Sweet Home Alabama.”

Bobby Kerlin, Mr. Starr’s Mill himself, will tell the story of the mill and the surrounding community. He was born and raised here and still resides just up the road. Read More»

The Fayette Thrift Shop celebrates 20 years

Twenty years ago this month, Asden Johnson and Eileen Patton began the Fayette Thrift Shop. It has always been open six days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The store has clothes, house-wares, and books available at reasonable prices to  those who are in need of them.

They have 80 volunteers, and a board of directors of 15 people, all of whom receive no remuneration of any kind.

Their kindly landlord, Wendell Goodman, has always been thoughtful of their rent, so that their only other expenses are utilities and phone. Read More»

Peachtree City Boy Scout Troop 279 recently had five members pass their Eagle Boards of Review at Peachtree City United Methodist Church. From left are Patrick Pietrzak, DJ Wigner, Robert Worley, Mitch Watson & Roberto Cama. All are Fayette County residents, except Roberto Cama who now attends college in Athens.
